combine several docs into one
« on: February 08, 2010, 03:46:17 AM »
We have a repeat headache job. Always about 20 Indy docs, to make up 56pp. Some one or 2 pp. Others 12..16..whatever. I would like this year to try and re-combine them into one doc., then get it sent back to GD concerned, with a plea to use it as the start of the next job. She has been running on rails on this one for a long time, but it may be worth a go.
I'm guessing it's achievable, and am also guessing it involves a Copy/Paste of doc page thumbnails to build the job back up.   :undecided:

no - it is manual but pretty easy

you can place indesighn docs as "pictures" within indesign - "apple d" for place command, navigate to all your pages you want to place, select the pages, and "place" where ya want em

here's a handy vid for ya my ozzy friend

http://www.russellviers.com/training-directory/index.html

with different pages ya might have to do the drag n drop tho
Leave me here in my - stark raving sick sad little world

Placing the docs makes them links
and a future pain to work with.
-
1 - open both documents
2 - make them separate windows (if you are running as tabs)
3 - activate the document you want to move pages FROM
4 - from the "Pages" pallet
drag the page THUMBNAILS onto the target documents window
     (NOT the targets "pages pallet")
5 - you will get a window asking where in the target document you would like the pages to go

This results in a live document - not links to other documents.
