Our VDP software has the ability to send the variable data seperate from the images to a printer if we want it too. In other words we can send a pdf of the background image that prints on every page in the run to the hard drive (or what they call a hard drive) of the printer, then send the variable in a seperate file. Then both files merge at the printer, this saves rip time on the image(s) not ripping every page over and over. We can do this no problem on our Digimaster 9110. However we're trying to make it work on the Indigo 7500 without success because it has a Digital Front End server (DFE) and the image file although it's postscript won't make it past the DFE to the printer.
And I know the design software (Your's truly or Smartstream designer) can send files seperatly however that seems to be a propietary method that HP has set up, and we're lacking the correct license to use their software.

Anyone out there ever sent data and image files seperatly to an Indigo using a third party VDP software?
Thanks.
