Or, pretty much anything other than something prepress related.

The only thing that sounds worse than that is crime scene cleanup (photographer would be okay, but not the cleaner)

Dave Attell did that job in the Bay Area on Insomniac. He made it seem fun.

The other side can point out their inaccuracies, but the voter's mind privileges the memory of the original accusation, which was juicier than any counterargument ever could be.)"

Quote from: almaink on August 30, 2012, 01:42:14 PMOne thing about the cloud is upgrades you won't get unless you go the cloud route. They just added a "a package" feature to Illustrator that only the cloud subscribers can get for example. First they kill off the Adobe Partners, now this crap, IMO Adobe is shooting itself in the foot and I wonder if they got someone who used to work at Quark running the marketing department now.

So wait, the cloud gets updated but the in the box buyers don't? That's pretty shitty.

Just wait until they release a update on the cloud that borks everyone's computer. That will be a fun day.

With global warming don't expect the cloud to be around long.

The thing about that is though...if you buy the $29.99 Cloud subscription now and it's good for 12 months, then they raise the price to the regular price of $49.99 or rumored to be $69.99 by then and you decide that's too steep so you cancel it. I believe your CS6 or whatever version is out at that time goes dead at that point whereas if you had bought the boxed version you can run it forever theoretically. Please correct me if that is wrong.

Quote from: pspdfppdfx on August 30, 2012, 06:44:12 AMIt's a long weekend with no plans, I'll have to look into it.

You spend your free time with Adobe?

I could think of at least 87 better things to do over a long weekend...

Yeah, what was I thinking.

Anyways, looks like we'll bypass the cloud based on responses here and other info I dug up.

My head will be clearer about noon time tomorrow and I'm sure I'll find better things to do.

What was I thinking?

I was wondering the same thing. If you buy the disk version, does it still have to go online for the licensing stuff, or can it run with no internet connection. I have worked with several casinos in the past, and the IT guys there are so paranoid, no one is allowed online access so they have to go old school and drop us off CDs and DVDs.

You have to have internet access to activate it but not after it is activated.

The apps are still installed locally once you get them downloaded. But you have to keep an internet connection so it can phone home occasionally.

IIRC you can still call an Adobe rep (help support) and get your activation code over the phone. After that I'm pretty sure you do not need a connection at all because I  know there is a way to disable the programs from connecting to Adobe's servers and they will still run.  :dev2:

Yes that is correct. You do not have to have internet access all of the time for the Cloud subscription but you have to have it available when when CS6 needs it.

QuoteHere's the info from the Creative Cloud subscription FAQ:

Do I need ongoing Internet access to use my Creative Suite applications?

Because your Creative Suite applications are installed directly on your computer, you will not need an ongoing Internet connection to use them on a daily basis. However, you will need to be online when you install and license your software, and at least once every 30 days thereafter. The software will alert you when you need to connect to the Internet for a license status check.

that's because it is a monthly subscription (even if you pay for a full year, it still checks every 30 days), it needs to verify that your subscription is up-to-date

According to their web site you have to pay monthly. You sign up for a year but it automatically charges your credit card once a month. I couldn't find anywhere that it allows you to pay the full year up front.
