I have a large catalog envelope job that I need to run the image to the edge on the trailing end of the envelope.

I have three edge printing turned on in iQueue and in the main menu.

I can only get within 1/8 of an inch, any closer and it starts cutting off the image.  What am I missing ?

Thanks.

CTP - CTF / Fujifilm FLH-Z (G&J) Gum Pump Issues
January 28, 2021, 09:06:08 AM
Hello.  The finisher pump on the processor won't run.  Have a new one coming, checked all fuses. However, I am getting 120 on two legs at the point where the pump plugs in, even with no plate traveling through the machine.  Seems like it would show nothing, and then voltage when the plate travels through.
Anyone been here before ? Thanx.

Fujifilm XMF / Curve for uncoated stock...
February 21, 2017, 02:55:58 PM
Hello.
It's been a long time since I last visited B4Print....

We have a project right now that has extremely dark screens - 80 or 90% in some cases.

My boss thinks that we should have a workflow that runs a linear curve or something less than linear to compensate for this dark artwork.  This job is printed on 70# opaque offset.

Suggestions are appreciated ...  Thanks !!

Hello.

1) I am having repeated issues with staples punching through the center spine on digitally printed booklets.
Doesn't matter how much or how little clinch I apply, nor what the length of the staples are.

2) Sometimes the double sheet caliper wheel will split the center spine on the inside also.

These problems seem their worst on coated papers.  I think the drying action of the fuser on the copier, digital press, or whatever you want to call it, is making the paper brittle and it becomes that much weaker with folding.

Has anyone had any success getting around these issues ??

Thanx !!

Fujifilm XMF / Converting Spots to XMF...
September 09, 2013, 07:21:53 AM
Okay, everyone is gonna say " shouldn't Dave already know this ??".  I'd rather not go there today.

We receive documents to print from the four corners of the earth, so we have no control over what comes in the door.  What does one do about converting a document that is all spot colors, or that contains spot colors, to CMYK.

Does one 'fix' it in the document stage, or do I let the workflow deal with it ?

I can't get the same results converting from Acrobat/PItstop as I do using XMF, and, at this point, the XMF result always looks better.

General Prepress / What do you furnish your pressman ??
January 16, 2012, 02:18:57 PM
What do you give your pressman to work from in the way of proofs -- Flat proofs of the press sheet to be printed, or in the case of booklets and/or folded pieces, a folded proof ?? Or both ??

In an effort to head off issues that result in plate remakes, there is now a new 'policy' in effect here that no job goes to plate without a folded proof, no matter how simple the job may be.

Though I've commented that a folded proof will not resolve all issues, the powers that be - a.k.a. The Boss and the 'Lead' Pressman - think it will.

     Comments, anyone???

General Prepress / TIFF Viewer Recommendations...
March 15, 2011, 04:26:02 PM
We are running a Trueflow Tiff Controller V3.12 driving a Fuji Dart 4300E.  Though there was a real lousy viewer added during the initial install, there doesn't appear to be a TIFF Viewer available as part of the TIFF Controller package.  Anyone have any suggestions on a viewer program that I could use with this software ?

I have had several jobs where a cutback 'Halo' effect occurs in the background  that totally surrounds any text with a drop shadow. I have had the same thing occur with picture windows with a drop shadow on a background.  The PDFs always look OK in Acrobat and in the Jobs Working Folder on screen, so I think something is going on when processed to plate.  Is there a setting I need to change in XMF ??
I thought I would run this through the braintrust before I call FLYFUJI.....

Pressroom / Toning on Quickmaster 46/2...
September 15, 2010, 01:54:48 PM
We have been having continual problems with toning of the non-image area. It is most noticeable where the gripper ends at the lead edge of the sheet, on both printing units. We are using Fuji LHPJ plates, but have been for the last four years. This problem has been showing up for the last 3 or 4 months - now it is on everything. We are using Varn Superlene for Fountain Solution, and the Superior Elite line of inks. We could really use some help with this one, preferably sooner than later ...Thanx.

Items for Sale / Fuji LHPJ Plates for Sale
August 26, 2010, 02:26:40 PM
I have two sizes of Fujifilm LHPJ plates I would like to sell:

1) Two cartons (50 per carton) 21.625x25.625 - .008 - Fits Heidelberg MOFP

2) One carton (50 per carton) 18 11/16 x 20 1/16 - .006 - Fits Heidelberg SM52

These have a shelf life of well into 2011. They are unopened, and I would pack to ship UPS.  We have sold the above presses and I am stuck with these three cartons, so I am motivated to move them...

Best offer takes 'em. :azn:

Fujifilm XMF / XMF Version 3.0.1 Upgrade ....
August 09, 2010, 11:15:20 AM
Things to pay attention to after the upgrade is complete:

1) Check and be sure that your file name templates are still intact.  My plate output name (PLATE_OUTPUT) went away, so I had to rebuild/replace it in all of my flows and plates.

2) When you replace your initial sheet with a stripping sheet from stripping sheet templates, you will have to manually change the initial sheet to 'sheet' or whatever you're used to calling it, prior to copying the remaining sheets.  Otherwise, it will assume the name of your template. In my case, it was 19x25_8.5x11_8PG_SS 1, instead of sheet 1.  Never did that in 2.5.

Other than those minor issues, things are rolling well, even on the Mini running Snow Leopard in my office, where I am posting from now.... :azn:

I wish to relocate to Hampden County in Western Massachusetts over the next year, preferably sooner than later.

I have worked in many facets of this industry, from small format presswork to CTP through bindery/ finishing, since 1977.

In addition, I have many years of experience in purchasing, estimating and production planning.

I have some experience with Nexus RIP , comprehensive experience with Dynastrip imposition and , and more recently, completed a full changeover to the Fujifilm XMF workflow.

Please do not be concerned with possible relocation expenses, as there simply won't be any.

I have an Amerigraph Magnum Platemaker that's been idle now for the past 5 years.  It is a model 437 7.5KW  Fliptop with a one-sided vacuum frame.  It is a little over 20 years old. Since we're now total CTP, it's just taking up space and we would like to move it out.  Though the installed bulb still functions, it will probably require a new bulb.

I would like $300 for the unit. Pickup only.

This unit is located in Rolla, Missouri - about 100 miles southwest of St. Louis.

April 15, 2010, 10:13:26 AM

Fujifilm XMF / XMF and CIP4
April 12, 2010, 01:25:28 PM
Hey .....

Is anyone running CIP3 or 4 files from XMF to the pressroom ?? Have no experience with CIP technology, so I could use a primer in that also...

The company has purchased a 2001 Komori press setup with CIP3, so I need to know if this will work with XMF or not....

Fujifilm XMF / Enfocus Profile Settings in XMF ...
March 28, 2010, 05:07:25 PM
Hey XMF Fans ....

What Enfocus Profile should I choose and apply in the XMF workflows ? PDF/X-1A or something else ...?? Also, do you have any additional actions applied to some or all of your workflows.... Like I have convert spots to CMYK in the Allcolors workflow - but that may have to be disabled in the job if you have a CMYK +#Spots job, which we get once in a while ??

Yeah, I've been flying by the seat of my pants since 10 February - now its time to work out the gory details before I turn the art people loose on XMF .....

General Prepress / 'Patterning" in CMYK Printing
March 03, 2010, 08:19:43 PM
Hi,
I've been fielding remarks from the pressroom (and from the boss ) about a 'pattern" they see from time to time on certain CMYK jobs. I have told them literally for years that there are only 3 real 30 degree angles, so yellow is angled midway between 2 of the other colors, and in certain combination of dots one will see a moire pattern of sorts, especially if you angle it at the light source you are viewing with.. I've been getting blown off about this again and again.  We are presently running 150 lpi at 2400 res, using euclidean dot. The angles were set up by Fuji installer of a new XMF workflow just 4 weeks ago, but they remarked about it with the old flow, too.
Neither of these two have any hands-on experience with screen angles, where I did CMYK blends the sticks-and-rocks way for 20+ years, but if I'm wrong, I can take it... Fire away ......

Is anyone running an Epson 7900 ??  Is it true that color management is an onboard feature, or does one still need to run separate management software ??  We were burglarized two weeks ago, and the most expensive item taken was the EFI 2.6 software ... So we need to replace that anyway, and we're looking at replacing the printer while we're at it .... comments, anyone ???

Anyone running an Epson 7900 with built-in management ??? We are considering an upgrade because our software was stolen in a burglary two weeks ago, and was never recovered, and the boss figures that he might as well purchase one with built in CM, plus the 7800 is real slow running with our new XMF flow ...
