Pressroom / Re: Plate Carts
May 19, 2025, 10:59:26 AM
Quote from: Tracy on May 19, 2025, 08:51:47 AMInteresting do you plate in a certain order so the plates
the pressroom needs is on top?
I can see how this could be a problem
Ohhhhh, if ONLY that were the case! With a constantly moving schedule, they come & grab what they need, or take a whole cart if there's a bunch of plates for a job. Like this – we tag 'em with the Job # and hope they don't get scratched/bent if the job they need is at the bottom.

This is prob 200+ plates between the 2 carts. I ran 65+ this am and the other prep guy just loaded another 60 he'll burn through before shift is over. We're cookin' now!!!  ;D

Quote from: Tracy on May 16, 2025, 11:23:27 AMI'm wondering if he has a plate stacker from the processor?
maybe talking large volume of plates?
We do, and there's currently about 300 plates on the stacker & the 2 other "roaming" plate carts. I don't see the volume letting up any time soon either. Lots of book work, it'd be impossible to pull & stack them as they come off any place else.

I've suggested that a few times - guess we're going to keep shuffling them between carts.
Oh, and now the pressroom is complaining about scratches & "poor" imaging. Shocking.

Pressroom / Plate Carts
May 12, 2025, 05:55:07 AM
Seems that even with three plate carts here (counting the one at the processor exit that's supposed to be "temporary" but currently holds several live jobs waiting for press) we need one more to stack up work. We're slammed, pressroom even running 12s isn't keeping up but the Prod Mgr keeps telling us to output large book jobs, there's already gotta be 300+ plates right now on the floor. But whatever.

Priced a new cart through our supplier, crazy fuckers want 4 GRAND for a metal cart.  >:(

Apparently we got one from Italy some years back, but that's probably unlikely right now. I suggested getting a local metal shop to come in & measure and fabricate one – can't imagine it'd be more than 1/4 of what we were quoted.

Where y'all source these things? Preferably US based, for obvious reasons.

Quote from: orka81 on April 17, 2025, 10:16:58 AMThe newest Pitstop version does have this: Just make my Canva PDF work! - CMYK ISO Coated v2. I've used it several times and it does a great job. It would be nice if it cleared out the phantom boxes, though.
So, I updated (went fine) and am running the latest & greatest but I don't see this Action. is it a separate DL?

Enfocus / Re: Ai in Print Webinar

Looking at the Registration page, I think it's actually run by PrintIQ, and NOT Enfocus. (Partners)

Which means yeah - more than likely a sales pitch. I'll maybe still tag in, can always opt Out of all the email spam later...

Quote from: DCurry on April 16, 2025, 05:28:47 PMI haven't had any problems with Canva PDFs in general. They actually seem to respond well to the various ways to add bleed in PitStop.

One thing I've noticed is when trying to select an object in PitStop there is a phantom unfilled grayscale box on top of every object. Mames it tough to select things so I use wireframe view a lot to select the item I need. Sometimes I delete the phantom box and don't see that it hurts anything but makes me nervous anyway.
Same, although the Bleed Fixes for Pitstop have intermittent success - was hoping they'd keep improving it in recent update but I haven't done the 2025 yet so can't say.

Re: Those Phantom Boxes – Same. wtf they're even FOR is beyond me, I may try the "Remove irrelevant objects" Action and see if it catches them. Kinda doubt it, as they're ON the page and may be seen as necessary.

Them.

Although, exporting PDFs out of it isn't that hard, assuming that they've set up the pages correctly.

Prob can't watch live but I'll register for the Recording - thanks!

I'm guessing they'll "wrap" automation sales into the webinar as AI blah blah blah. Especially with PrintIQ as a partner-used their MIS previously and it can be heavily automated, even with Enfocus Switch but takes a TON of development & $$$.

Enfocus / Pitstop 25.03 and Acrobat Compatibility
April 03, 2025, 09:47:48 AM
I've got the Pitstop Updater all downloaded & itchin' to get installed, still on Acrobat 2024.005.20320 though. Do I go balls out & update Acro first and then Pitstop, or risk the Pitstop update on an admittedly old ass Acro version?

If you need a variety of stepping options, but you want to keep using InDesign, might be worth looking into having a coding genius write a script for you. They'd be able to make it a custom Window/Panel where you could enter the # of steps, spacings etc. with fairly minimal cost I'd imagine.
