We currently have 2 mac workstations: one running CS4 and one running CS2 and we're wondering if we can get away with one upgrade to CS5. Of course when I went online to Adobe they said we had to buy 2 separate upgrades but I'm wondering why if you can legally install InDesign on 2 computers. (I think)

DCurry

I believe that you can legally install one copy on 2 machines, but you cannot run them at the same time. I think it was intended as a way to let folks who might have a computer at the office and also a laptop be able to use both machines.

I have a G5 I am going to add more ram on
so I can upgrade to CS4
The G4 I am currently working on has all the  programs I want
(CS3 with Acro 9)
any tips on transferring the CS3's between the 2 computers
I'm going to uninstall both and switch basically
plus any tips on transferring preferences and scripts
and anything else I prolly don't know about would be great!

The "easiest" method I have ever found is to use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the hard drive from the G4 to the G5. Use target firewire mode with the G5 so the G4 sees the hard drive of the G5 just like a normal drive. Format the G5 hard drive. Then clone from G4 to G5. When done reboot the G5 and you should be up and running with everything on the G5 the way you were with the G4.

What Joe said...

If you plan on moving CS3 from one mac to another, you will need to deactivate the one before you uninstall it.

You can copy off your preferences, they will be in your user/home/library/preferences folder.
You will see a bunch of folders for each of the apps in the suite as well as the actual prefs for the apps themselves.

The easiest way is what Joe described, cause you never know if you got them all.

wow that's sounds amazingly easy
I will check into this carbon copy cloner
thanks for the preference info too.
I'm sure I will keep you updated on my progress
have to update the ram first.

adding the RAM part is easy.
Just make sure you get matching pairs or the Mac won't recognize them.

I'm sure you don't need that bracelet, Tracy. You seem grounded enough without it.
