So, we DO have it in the MIS system, it's actually required for every stock available. We think it's so that it can calculate shipping costs, coil sizes for spiral/wire-o books etc.
Apparently when they plan a job like that, the MIS automatically assigns the coil size, which is cool. Again, it's NOT printing on the physical job tickets but it's definitely part of the base package we use.

Thanks,
I have seen this used for calculating the # of sheets for a cutter lift also.
I just need to see it in prepress for the operators to get the proper shingle assigned. Can come close with 'standard' references, but sometimes you need the real numbers.
These numbers are in our current system as well....just not available to the printed job ticket....

Absolutely, and if the jobs isn't correct it goes back to Planning.* All available stocks are in the database, so CSRs can't mix/match them incorrectly. If a stock isn't available, it gets added by the Lead CSR.

Are you saying that the job tickets out of Avanti don't have the paper weights? Never seen it, so not sure.

*By caliper, I mean it's GSM weight, we manually input caliper at the impo stage, as the MIS doesn't interact with XMF.

I am talking about the thickness of the sheet (caliper) as  GSM (Grams per Square Meter) is a weight indicator, not a thickness....Avanti DOES have the paper weights available for job tickets, it just DOES NOT show the caliper of the chosen stocks (although they ARE in the database, just not available for the ticket>)

Hello all, (POLL ABOVE THIS MESSAGE)

I'm curious if see your paper caliper/thickness on your current job ticket from your PMIS?

I have changed printing companies, and our current system (AVANTI CLASSIC) does not have this variable for reporting ---but they will add it for us....for a TON of money!

Reworking the prepress job ticket, and I WANT this information for SHINGLING....(seems like a good piece of information for any PMIS to pass along to your Job Workflow?)

Simply just looking if someone has the 5.3.1 or 5.3.3 WINDOWS installers for this?   (KODAK does not have it....)

---
(read on only if you want the the poop...)

When I inquired to the Kodak Partner Place...I was saddened the OLD VERSION INSTALLERS were not to be found on their site, Kodak 'essentially' told me PISS OFF, version 6 and earlier are EOL and we no longer allow you to get the old SW. "We can put you in touch with a Sales Rep to talk about upgrade options...."  FFS!, I have a process that works GREAT on 5.3....I DO NOT NEED or WANT to upgrade it.

Shit, I have the damn dongle and license materials...just the CPU took a dump and I can only find my 5.2 disk...I can get most from backups, but would rather have the 5.3.x installers.
I'm working for a company that DID NOT archive the 'new' installers downloaded a decade ago...They machine it was running on was almost old enough to buy me a drink!

[/quote I have a licensed version of Imposition Studio, bought as a stopgap until we could get a Real Solution. I haven't done anything with barcodes yet though, if you need anything specific tested before you commit, let me know & I'll try it for ya.

I did eval and purchase Imposition Studio...and it does exactly what I need it to for now, and the hot folder workflow is rather slick for PDF imposition. What REAL imposition tool did you migrate to?

Thanks.

We use an OLD version of Preps (5.3) w/Rampage - I do see that barcode marks are an option to look at (was not aware of this)...but we are only using preps for our OFFSET workflow. For digital, we have 'a mess' of other workflows (Prinect, Fiery, Xeikon)...and nobody really 'gets to talk to' each other...(the logic of a unified workflow is lost on the illogical thinking at the shop....)

Thanks, actually the need is for a bookletmaker that reads barcodes during operation...and we simply want to use the codes to ensure set integrity (right page in book, correct # pages, etc).

The codes vary for the page#, total pages, and feeder used (cover feeder(s) and stack feeder)

looking to add barcode data in the bleed area of certain pages...
was thinking of creating PDFs of the various barcodes to PLACE in the pdf margin via pitstop...and if pitstop had a generator that'd be even better  (code39)

unlike code-39, code-128 requires checksums to be read properly...just using the 128 font with raw data is not enough, the data must be manipulated (via code creation tools/programs).
-Is that 2nd row the actual name/title or is it the encoded code that should work with the font...OR you recoding an already coded code (as in, does printshop mail do the encoding for barcodes?)
-what does the custy expect from what was supplied, as in "what the hell is the 2nd row for?"

Adobe Illustrator / Re: Compound paths
June 13, 2017, 08:20:31 AM
Don't think it has anything to do with the version, opened in CC and see the same thing (releasing clipping and compound path to make the edit in AI). In Acrobat DC you can 'edit' the text and select/recolor individual characters (if the text if recognized when converting paths TO text....yes, it actually does this....sometimes...).
The old standby for us is PITSTOP for these 'pesky' changes.
I don't know of a 'better' way unless you get your hands on the original files before the text was converted.
As with most things in PREPRESS/PREP, you have some of the tools to do the surgery...but when shit don't play right, it becomes that hacked-up mess...important thing is who(or what) survives in the end.

JollysFastVNC client for the mac is a favorite viewer around the shop here - https://www.jinx.de/JollysFastVNC.html

....Also, RealVNC has a App for the Chrome browser that is a neat-o little option for the tool box.....

Not in Preps 5 as far as I can tell, but good info here nonetheless...

Quote from: DCurry on February 09, 2017, 12:59:52 PMIn the Layout Details window where you would normally add your creep value there is a check box next  to the word Scale. I think this was introduced in Preps 5. Screenshot is from Preps 7.

Quote from: Trish on January 04, 2017, 12:37:27 PMHelp! I have to merge a job that has 27,400 records (this job is also 2 sided) so that makes it a 54,800 page document.
I have to run this 12 up cut and stack. my XMF system will not allow me. So I have a 12 up document, is there a way that I can tell 1 record to be 1-2000, the the 2nd one to be 2001-4000 and so on. for all 12 up in my layout.
I can't figure it out!
