It might if it's a newer version of EFI. We have to supply the IP address in our setup which I think is EFI 2.5. Or use USB and you don't need the IP address.

David, did the config menu that you printed list the available network protocols of the printer?

Have you tried the EpsonNet from a Mac? Since Appletalk is enabled (on a Mac with Appletalk = pre Snow Leopard) it should find it and maybe let you set the IP address, subnet mask, & gateway.

From a Windows PC you could install NetBEUI and see if it finds it then.

since it will ultimately end up as a network printer (with a RIP in front), I'm going to continue with the PC.
Going to try the network cable (instead of the USB) next to see if I get any better results.

With the Mac I just meant to try the EpsonNet utility from there to see if you can change the settings via Appletalk. Not to actually install the print software on the Mac.

Mac software - PC for RIP - something not right here. We do know Frailer is savy with USB connected RIPs.....

Joe

The EpsonNet utility comes in Windows 32-bit, 64-bit, and Macintosh and is only used to configure the network settings on the network card in the printer. I'm saying to try it from a Mac with Appletalk because Appletalk is enabled on the network card in the printer. Once the IP address, subnet, and gateway are set we can forget about the Mac and use the EFI software on the PC.

Or just give up on it being networked and use the USB cable to connect to the Windows PC running the EFI RIP.

delooch

are you plugging that device into a hub or directly to the back of a pc?

David

I have it plugged into a Mac with 10.4.11 now (usb, no hub, straight in).
The utility does not see it.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

I'm downloading the driver for it right now to see if I can put that in there and see if that does any good.

The EFI rip software has both Mac and PC installers, so I'm good there.

All I need is just a few numbers separated with periods.

stupid epson

just picked up on the old "crossover" cables - if you were using ethernet..

use of ehternet hub = no crossover cable

direct to pc = use crossover cable

What about being plugged into the network and the USB cable unplugged and seeing if EpsonNet on the Mac will see it? (Don't have both the USB cable and network cable plugged in at the same time)

Exactly and that means two network cards in the PC. David the PC/RIP software will broadcast the "logical Printer" and deal with the internal printer connection by Crossover I believe. This is the stage where swinging a chicken over your head may come in handy.

Joe

And a rain dance wouldn't hurt either. :)

you will not believe this...

Mac 10.4, unplugged USB and plugged the epson into network hub, rebooted mac, and now the utility sees the 7000.

I may live to see another day!

edit... the Epson may live to see another day.
