I'm doing OK cheers Frailer, the streets of London are pretty cold at the moment. Not as bad as last year, but I want some warmth in the sun!

Damn it! Why the hell did I think you were in London? Sorry Rat, must be getting old or something

Take a look at this place

http://www.lcc.arts.ac.uk/

It's in London, I know an old member got a degree in colour management here a few years ago. Don't know the current situation there.

Hope it helps

Depending on the image a quick and dirty way of doing this is to work on a duplicate of the image, make it grey scale and then raise the brightness/contrast until you have a silhouette.

Open the original image and then while holding down shift, drag the silhouette layer onto the original images window. (Holding down shift will ensure the new layer drops in exactly the same position as he image below.

Select the silhouette (apple click on the layer thumbnail) - switch to the image layer, then chose shiw/hide selection from the layer menu and turn off the silhouette layer.

Probably gonna need some tidying up but it's pretty quick and similar to the channel technique.

Hey Rat, you still in London?

Sincerely hope not

I agree entirely

Many supplied files that are received, judging by the comments that members make, aren't even close, with clients unable or unwilling to supply files as desired.

That's the crux of the problem - file supply, indifferent of format o r technology.

Gimme a file and I'll get it to print, I might bitch and moan but I will get it to print, as you say Matt, that's what we do

Preflight results are really only as good as the rules that it's set up to check for. I would imagine that most of us know what we're looking for, most clients would not. A low res rgb jpeg is the same as a high res tiff - it's a picture. This sort of thing is mentioned time again throughout the forum.

Indy CS4 can kind of preflight 'on the fly' depending on how you set it up. Check the bottom left of the document window for a little green or red blob, Errors or No Errors. The default is to check to missing images, but you should be getting a warning when you open the document.

(On a side note, I have to say that the links pallet in Indy CS4 is pretty awful, particularly if you want to see the path of the missing image)

The magical part is if you can get the POS to install in the first place!

Quote from: gnubler on March 29, 2010, 09:14:39 PMThe comments on this thread make me giggle...I have to ask - how/why the F are you guys getting promo emails from Quark? Are you managers or the heads of prepress depts? I just can't think of any reason anyone would willingly supply Quark with their email address unless it was during the unwilling online purchase of their software.

"Quark 8's fiercest competitor is Quark 4." LOL!

I'm too embarrassed to say, though I did get another email newsletter from them today...

I don't know if this ill clear things up or just confuse, but

At home I have an Intel Mac running the latest update of snow leopard...

When I installed Snow Leopard, I also installed Rosetta (it's an optional install from the disk)

All I can say is that my copy of Photoshop CS 2, runs on my mac.

Quote from: frailer on March 09, 2010, 09:35:43 PMBut don't North Americans miss out on the 'i' in aluminium anyway?     I've been dying to aim this towards the right audience for years.

...aloominum.   :cheesy:

Probably those crazy Brits stuck that unnecessary "i" in there like the "u" in color (colour).
