Hey everybody,

Today's crisis involves a "VOID Pantograph" that I've been told to recreate...  :banghead:

After much experimentation, in the past we created a pantograph that involved a simple screened gray background.  But no, I can't use that one for this job.  This job's pantograph has what I call a "cloud background" with the "VOID" dots mixed in through it.  (I can provide a scan of it if this will help people visualize it.)

But before I go through hours of hassle, I thought I'd ask people on here if:
(a) they have any such (or similar) pantographs -- preferably vector-based if at all possible -- that they'd be willing to share
(b) anyone can point me in the direction of a site that sells such pantograph graphics at a reasonable price

Cheers, John the Fontaholic  :drunk3:

This is the type of background image I'm looking for:

Void panto images are usually very sensitive to the image resolution, the output resolution of your platesetter, the line screen and the press it is run on. Also the direction it runs on the press (either around or across the cylinder).
It involves using 2 different line screens (one courser than the other) in a foreground/background type of situation.
Most are void panto images are the same res as your output device (like a 2400 dpi bitmap image).
Have you googled it yet? There are a few ways to do this in Photoshop.

Years ago, we needed one for a job, we had a company come out with test files that we had to put on press, made a few adjustments, and then they made us one.
It wasn't cheap, because it involved press time, multiple plates, paper and prepress time.

YMMV

We do a lot of checks & security envelopes, but this is the only pattern I've seen come through. I've got a PDF/Illy  file if it's of any use, let me know~
A little diddie 'bout black 'n cyan...two reflective colors doin' the best they can.

If you'd like to send the Illustrator file to prepress@opsprinting.com, I'll definitely see if this can be of any use...  :)

Hi
I am also facing the same problem
Desperately looking for a void pantograph file in any vector format
So if any one could help, my mail id is fnarvel@gmail.com
Thanks

Slappy

The one I posted was more of a "security backer" for envelopes than a true void pantograph really. It's yours if ya want though, I'll send it from my Gmail - just say the word!

Okay so I look up Pantograph on here and get this small exchange.  I have a client who is wanting us to produce coupons off of our digital press and have a void pantograph that will only show up if it is copied.  I am completely unknowledgeable of how this is accomplished and am not really sure if it can be accomplished.  On another forum someone responded that the only way you could have something show up on a copy but not in the original is if it were printed at Hogwarts.  Not sure if he's right.

David

the void pantographs are made as a 2 line screen 1 bit tiff.
We have one here, but for the life of me I can't find it.

Basically the word "void" is set at a 150 line screen and the background would be either a higher or lower screen ruling. They should be on the same angle so it just looks like a gray background, until it's copied.

Thanks David.  I am starting to wrap my mind around the concept.  Looks like a new skill I will eventually be able to add to the resume. ;)
