Quote from: Joe on June 14, 2018, 03:46:41 PMYeah you would need Acrobat DC to import it.

Figures, I feel so left behind...   :rage:

FYI - I tried to load the preflight profile as well (out of curiosity to see it work on the test file) but it failed to import into Acrobat. (screen grab below) However, I am on Acrobat Pro X (10.1.16).

Quote from: Joe on June 14, 2018, 07:43:49 AMKudos to ninjaPB_43 for mentioning the CID font encoding issue...extract this Acrobat Preflight and import it into Acrobat. Run it on the file using 'Analyze and Fix' and save the new file. Once that is done you can select the text with Pitstop as you normally can.

I had a feeling someone would have an action or preflight that would fix it.  Nice Joe. Thanks.

See four screen grabs - The fonts are CID with a custom encoding. Tell the client to use Unicode or ANSI coding instead.

Here's a link to a similar issue on the topic..

QuoteWhile using CID fonts can have many advantages, especially when displaying Eastern language text, in this case I believe it was purely a deliberate attempt to make copying text from the document a hassle, as most reader applications would just copy the original encoded characters, resulting in garbled text being pasted.

Quote from: Maire on June 07, 2018, 09:42:40 AMWho actually discovered this security flaw? If I had my tinfoil hat on, I'd say this was deliberately done by Intel and/or AMD to slow down the current generations of processors and make people buy the new ones. But I don't. lol

It helps to read the linked articles... Jus' saying.

Quote from: AaronH on May 24, 2018, 01:13:31 PMOh nice. For some reason our ORIS rip doesn't have a gracol uncoated profile anywhere. I downloaded a profile from gracol's site but for some reason I couldn't get ORIS to work with it. Oh well, my Fuji color guy is showing up soon for our G7 certification soon and we'll have him for another day of training on making profiles and such on ORIS.

Nice! I would think the ORIS RIP would handle using the profile just fine - kinda weird. Maybe it just needs to be in a correct folder somewhere for the drop down to see it.

On another note - I'm not having much luck with it. I changed the proofer over to matte black inks, I've tried printing blacks as inkjet, I've tried numerous iterations of target rendering - and am not very happy with the results. I'm going to sleep on it and give it another go tomorrow. My trial & error is up to about 10 errors now.  :banghead:

:ninja:

EDIT: FYI, I WILL make that proofer my bitch one way or another.   :rotf: :ninja:

Quote from: AaronH on May 24, 2018, 11:14:40 AMNice! If you don't mind me asking... Where did you find that uncoated profile? I can't seem to find one in our system.

It was stock in our Fiery XF.  Just went to New Workflow and it was one of the drop down options..

UPDATE:

Here's where I'm going...

I've setup a new "uncoated" workflow on my RIP using the GRACoL2013UNC_CRPC3.icc as a starting point.

I have a test file that we keep lying around that I sent to our G7 qualified vendor and had him run me a copy on the proofing paper they typically use for uncoated jobs. (ORIS E-OMP185) I will use this as my target.

I ordered a couple rolls of Epson's Enhanced Matte proofing paper (which ended up being no where near as white as the ORIS, but it'll get me close) - I ran the same test file, and it's close. I'm now going to use a Visual Correction at the RIP to pull some magenta out and dial in to the target proof from the printer.

Once I have that set - then our live jobs can proof/color correct through that uncoated workflow with confidence that it will get us really close to the printer's proof once we release files to them...

Trial and error - I know..  but I don't have all the correct measuring devices in house - and really don't need to get that technical when I have eyes that can get me just as close.   :ninja:

You mean like your mom did last night?  :ninja:

So, seriously though, is buying a roll of proofing stock like GMG's ProofPaper matte 140 my only option? Or is there a way to emulate uncoated on my semi-matte with good results?

I have a 1-time a year uncoated (70# uncoated text) job coming up and I want to have my internal proofs get close to my printer's proofs and press.

I currently run Gracol on a semi-matte for all of our proofs and we are matching our coated jobs (almost perfectly) at several G7 qualified printers.

What can I do internally to get out ahead of proofing for an uncoated job?

Quote from: Joe on May 15, 2018, 08:32:25 AMThat sounds familiar. :rotf:

I know we have the email about it from the Adobe rep. My boss will be contacting them but even if they give us a 10% discount the price is still going to go up to $71.99 per month per user. $49.99 sounds much better.

Depending on how the guaranteed 10% discount is worded, and the negotiation abilities of your boss - maybe you can get 10% off the $49.99 individual price...   :rotf:

Quote from: Joe on May 15, 2018, 07:53:28 AMI don't think there is anyway they could stop it. We just stop the payments on the Teams account and sign up for an individual account for 11 different users. Then we will have to make 11 different payments for each user. More work on our end but worth it in the long run. When we first signed up for it years ago we were going to go with individual accounts but Adobe recommended for that many users it was easier for us to admin with a Teams account and they gave it to us at the time for $36 per month which was cheaper than the individual accounts. But every year since then we've been getting less and less discounts. The past year we were paying $66.49 which is a 5% discount and we were guaranteed a 10% discount for the following two years. Now it seems the price has gone up to $79.99 with no 10% discount as promised to us when we renewed last year.

That seems pretty messed up - do you have a written contract with them stating the "guaranteed 10% savings for the following 2 years"? (even an email from a sales rep would hold up in court) They would have a legal obligation if you do.

Edit: unless of course their fine print says "we reserve the right to increase pricing at anytime, for any reason, and will not be obligated to any contracted agreements"  (read as "this contract is not really a contract, but rather, a veil intended to pull the wool over our valued customer's eyes.")

Quote from: Joe on May 14, 2018, 04:09:46 PMConsidering it very strongly. It is just a PITA to administer 11 separate accounts and have 11 separate monthly charges to the one credit card.

Yea, that's a pain.

Quote from: Joe on May 14, 2018, 04:15:51 PMActually you can get it for $49.99 per month if you pay for the whole year at a time.

What options are under Business?

Quote from: Joe on May 14, 2018, 09:53:05 AMWell the above info is totally wrong.

We just got our new invoice order and they say ours is jumping up to $79.99 per month per user for the Team plan. We have 11 users which means we are going to have to pay $10,558.68 per year for the pleasure of using the Adobe products.

Sounds like you should sign up for 11 Individuals All Apps subscription...  at least that way you only pay $53/person/month -OR- $6996 for the pleasure...   #AdobeMath

Fucking price-gouging SOBs.  :lipsrsealed:  :shoots_self:
