Title: Prinergy Server Hard Drive Died
Post by: David on July 15, 2021, 07:32:43 AM
anyone know the best way to replace a failed hard drive on a prinergy server?

Was in the server room yesterday and noticed a warning on the screen for the prinergy server. Looks like Drive 0 is toast.
I pulled the drive and hooked it up to my external drive kit and it won't spin up, not even make a clicking noise or anything.

Question:
can I get a similar drive, plug it in, let it rebuild itself, good to go or does this need a Kodak service call?

TIA

Yes. Try to get the exact same drive, ie...manufacture, model and size. If you have a service plan that covers the server Kodak will send you a new drive for free. Well really nothing is free with Kodak but you get the gist.

I agree, the Kodak / Dell stuff is hot-swappable.
Not sure about my current "virtualized" stuff, IT took it over from us at that point so it is "supposedly" not my problem.

mine is not a virtual server, don't think it could handle it.

:lmao:

waiting on a reply from my Kodak guy to see if our service contract covers the replacement drive.

If not, I saved a bunch when the Dell hardware went away ;)

ordered a new drive today.

our Kodak service contract does not cover parts and the Dell warranty expired in 2017, so no free drive.

41 bucks, free shipping, be here next week.

Just turn it off until the new drive gets there next week. Problem solved. You are welcome.

I would have ordered 2, so I would have a spare for the next time it happens. Especially at that price! Then there wouldn't be any waiting or worrying about the second drive dying why you are waiting. The simple piece of mind goes a long way.
But of course you can always call back now, and order another one. Never know when you won't be able to get them anymore.
