Prinergy 10 and Preps 10 went into beta this week - according to the Kodak support case I have open, you cannot update to Preps 10 without Prinergy 10.

We can no longer buy new mac minis that work with Prinergy.

OS 13 causes a major cluster with preps 9.5, all else seemed to work ok. You can't roll back a M2 mac mini to OS 12.

We upgraded to Prinergy 9.5 so we could upgrade our older macs, now we cant buy new. We missed the 15 second window.

We use Fiery XF with an Epson P7000 with an inline spectro, I agree with DCurry you do not want halftone screens. I believe to get halftones simulated on an inkjet you need software to do that.

With our setup, the only choice for half-toning is "epson Precision Dot".

Our P7000 does not have the violet, we are 99.9% 4 color, so we do not have our workflow set for accurate spot reproduction.

CTP - CTF / Re: Magnus 800 plate scratches
February 23, 2023, 08:04:13 AM
We had issues with scratches on Fuji plates when we switched from Agfa a few years back. Our Manroland plate loaders are very rough on plates. We had to go the the thickest gum possible and and to play with the water /gum mixture for a while until we got the recipe right, 100% Gum, 0% Water.

Our second plant (30 minutes south) runs the same plates and gum on Komori web presses and they 50/50 Gum/water.

Both plants have Screen plate setters.

Kodak Systems / Re: Kodak Business Link and MIS
October 25, 2022, 12:48:44 PM
We have Business Link but have not messed with it in years. We got it to connect Prinergy to our EFI front end where you could send jobs from our MIS and they would be created in Prinergy and InSite. We tried several times to get value out of it but it ended up causing more work than it saved. We even had Kodak and EFI  come for a visit, it was quicker to just build a job and then impose in Preps.

Digital Printing / Re: RGB to CMYK Conversion
August 18, 2022, 06:24:42 AM
I was searching the other year for an icc profile to use when our Prinergy converts rgb to cmyk and I came across some on Don Hutchinson's site - http://www.hutchcolor.com/profiles.html

I downloaded Wirephoto Color Spaces (4 K) and we are using and happy with "Wirephoto gamma 2.2.icc"

Good Luck!

Thanks everyone - I'll talk with the press room and try a test on a live job.

Random Technology / Re: Manroland PECOM Question

Joe - Yes, the CIP files are their own output process. We do not output the CIP from the plate output because we have quite a few odd scenarios where there are upper plate changes, lower plate changes, single black plate changes and other odd outputs and the Manroland CIP data must be all 8 separations of a run.

We do it via RBA so we have a manual trigger RBA selected (based on paper) that does 3 things,  sends plate data to the plate setter, creates the CIP file and creates the tiff for PressProof.

Thanks Scott - that is similar to us as on our Komori Presses - the Manroland just needs 1600 dpi which seems extreme. I was mistaken earlier, I said 72 dpi for the Komori, but it is actually 600 dpi, still much less data.

Out Manroland plate size is roughly 46 x 75 inches to you can imagine a 1600 dpi file of that is quite large.

Our largest Komori plate is about 24 x 38 so even at 600 dpi it is much less data.

Thanks Joe!

We send 72 dpi to our 3 Komori presses, I will see if I can send a test or two and have pressroom look at it, or maybe just start sending them at 72 dpi and see what happens  ;)

Yes, I can change it to anything in Prinergy. We even experimented on a job or two early on. When we set it up, the tech would just say that it would or would not work.

I got lucky when I posted a question on Print planet and there was a config file I needed and someone there sent me the text file that I had to do a slight modification.

Just seems 1600 is a bit overkill for cip, Pressroom is forced to clear out the cache quite often because of the size of these files.

Random Technology / Manroland PECOM Question
August 11, 2022, 11:42:08 AM
Hello,
We have a Manroland Lithoman, been running great for 5 or so years. One sticking point is the CIP Data we send to the press, the files are huge! When the techs were here installing the press, they were not much help but we got it figured out but the resolution of what we send is 1600 dpi, huge files. Our other presses all take 72 dpi data.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,

John

Kodak Preps / Re: Generating JDF for MBO folder
July 22, 2022, 06:31:07 AM
We use Prinergy to create Data Matrix codes but they are an RBA adventure to set up. We use them for a plate sorting system.
The tough part is determining the data you want and and creating the Custom Fields for the Data Matrix Mark.

What Data does your folder need? I think the sizing is a bear to set up as well.

I would be of no help with the JDF fold info, we tried to send some data for cutting years ago but it was a mess.

They do drift over time. We check ours pretty often but we have an inline spectro and each proof is checked for accuracy and has a verification right on the proof.

We are also looking at a few GCR solutions with our Prinergy Workflow. We are looking at Alwan, OGS Oris and ColorFlow.

We currently GCR with some Device Link profiles that we purchased form Kodak after a press test and they created them in ColorFlow Pro. They are a few years old and we want more options.

We currently have a demo of Alwan Color Hub, in our conversations with Alwan, Prinergy Rules can be written to hand off the files.
Our Front Runner now is Alwan LinkProfiler, with this we can create our own device link profiles and add them to Prinergy. The cost estimate we have seems like the best bang for the buck.

Quote from: born2print on July 08, 2022, 11:20:08 AMPitstop rasterize selection could be great for that too, leave some of the page vector as appropriate.
Rasterize everything except text is the greatest Pitstop action ever!

Is "Rasterize everything but text" built in or do you need to create it? Just upgraded to '21 and feeling my way around. I found Rasterize Selection.

Thanks!
