Not sure either.  That setting was for Color Management.  We have another setting for turning off overprint for all black except text smaller than 14pt.  This feature has no bearing on this problem as text is larger.  At least now we have some answers and can turn this back on when needed in the Color Management preferences.  This will alert us to inspect thoroughly.  Thanks for your help.

It sounds like you might have conflicting settings. Not sure which way it will go when it's told to do the opposite of another setting. If you have it set to knockout text larger than 14 pt., it should. It didn't in your problem page.

Yes, definitely a weird problem he had.
