Adobe sure has their head's up their asses with the CC bullshit...Why The EFF-EWE-SEA-KAY would I want my business to close because my interweb is down!!!! (They say an active net connection isn't needed to use CC apps, but I guess that's only a half-truth...)

I've always had issue with things that are internet dependent. At my house my connection sucks, it's slow ass DSL. Seems the mentality is everyone has superfast broadband everywhere. Programs call home constantly, web pages are friggin huge so it's click, go make coffee and maybe the page will be done loading. Single player games that need a connection in order to play are bullshit.
Adobe already has your CC info... so does a bunch of hackers. They don't need to make sure your program works.
Some company is missing a great opportunity to swoop in and give Adobe a little competition.

If some enterprising person were to purchase Scribus, Inkscape, and Gimp and throw a PDF editor into the mix it could give Adobe a run for their money if priced reasonably. Maybe a pipe dream but the alternative is that Adobe rules the world.

That would be called PitStop Pro Standalone. Did I say that? :undecided:
Looks like this happened while we were asleep over here. :relieved:
I've got a floppy with MacPaint and MacWord on it. Now if I could just find the old Macintosh Plus.....
CS6 Forever! I've had a few issues with the Documents font folder with back saved files, but thats easy to work around.
Xara seems to have both a raster and a vector program, but I think they're just for Windows. Corel is getting better also. Both ran specials not long ago for Adobe switchers.
The next version of CC is coming out next month and CS6 will move out of CC. They only keep the latest 2 versions. It wouldn't surprise me if they have some kind of time bomb in CS6 to make it more "difficult" for users to stay there.
I have both CC and 6 running. I was thinking the same thing, to make it difficult to hang with 6 because they can make it more difficult.
I was told that we **have to** upgrade to CC this week. Any words of advice... or a eulogy?
Adobe extended their "special" price until May 30. We can upgrade to CC Team for $36 per month per user for 2 years if we sign up before then. After that it goes to $49.99 per month per user. ($69.99 per month per user for new users). Unfortunately we realize we will HAVE to upgrade at some point and we might as well get the discount now for 2 years.
No words of advice. I have CC at home already. Acrobat XI sucks but the rest is OK. Other than that credit card charge every month.
I was looking just to get a license for a single copy of Indesign CC just to appease the sheeple/customers sending in files from it. I was honestly looking at doing this LAST WEDNESDAY when the UhDohBee cloud fell apart.....just confirmed my fears, and it will take me another week to get brave enough to pull the trigger....on renting ONE copy of ONE program.... :puke2:
I just checked, and we qualify for the $39.99/mo contract, but it's only one-year, not two. Next question: On the same machine, can you continue to run legacy versions (I have 3, 4, 5 and 6) on this box, and I need 6 for certain because I constantly have to save stuff down for vendors or to provide art to customers who want to rework old files and some of them still use 4 and 5. I have one vendor who can only accept CS3.
Yes you can run the old version. I have 5.5, 6, and CC here at home.
Quote from: DigiCorn on May 20, 2014, 10:54:55 AMI just checked, and we qualify for the $39.99/mo contract, but it's only one-year, not two.
Tell them you will only buy it if they give you two years. That is what we did. Well actually we said 3 years but they wouldn't go for that but they did go for 2 years. Of course we have 14 users so that might have made a difference.
:lmao:
I still don't get why Adobe doesn't reinstate the Print Provider Program. I don't like renting anything, but if I could pay one fee, once a year like I did for the PPP I would do it. I am running CS6 stand alone version now, although I still do 90% of my work in CS3 because thats what 90% of my customers still use.
They don't have to. They figure they've got the world by the short hairs, so now they can just sit back and rake in the money.
Unfortunately, this is probably their line of thinking.
Since I can run legacy versions, it looks to be a bit slower here today, and the "sale" ends next week, I will probably be upgrading to CC on Mac today. We're staying at 5.5 on Windows.
OK. Went to adobe.com to look into the upgrade more seriously, and now I'm totally %^&ing confused.
a) What version of CC do I need? The team license is $49.99 but an individual license is $29.99. I'm thinking we only need the individual...
b) It says you can run one license on two machines, so does that mean I can upgrade my CS6 on Mac and my 5.5 on Windows?

b) Yes, but not legally. You can install it on 2 computers as long as they are not both in use at the same time (per the license). The theory is that it is impossible for you to be in two places at once.
a) according to adobe the individual license is tied to an email address and credit card. If an employee of that company leaves there is nothing stopping them from changing the email address and payment option and taking that license with them. Therefore they recommend the team license for businesses and stick it to them at a higher price. They claim the higher price is because each user gets more tech support, more storage space on the cloud, and simpler administration of multiple users. But if you are upgrading don't pay that $49.99, The are running a last chance (until May 30) to get team at $39.99 and lock that price in for two years.
Last chance to lock in US$39.99/mo. for two years. (http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/teams.html)
The reality is that we're a 4 employee company. I'm honest, with enough moral ethics that I wouldn't take the license or change the email, blah blah blah. I use B4Print for support, but in almost 25 years of prepress, I have called Adobe for support maybe 3-4 times, and probably not since 1997.

Just spoke with a "live help" person he says:
QuoteWith one use license you can install the software on two systems but you will not be able to use at the same time.

Well he is wrong. They will both work fine at the same time but you can't run them both at the same time and be legal.

But you can if you decide later that you want to!
Forcing companies to tie each license to a particular person or buy the more expensive team license is just another way of milking customers. Schools have it tough on this point also. With all the trouble they've had with credit cards and payments, Adobe should be glad to tie the account to a business name and CC, not an individual. I'm not even talking about the hacking, the Adobe forums are full of people who can't get their payments to go through.
Having trouble updating 5.5 on my Windows 8 box. It downloads all the updates but can't seem to apply them. I clicked on the "help" box and the error code says invalid serial number, but I verified via the box and web that the serial number is correct and that the product is activated properly.
I'm sure Adobe would recommend upgrading to CC.
I've never had to enter a serial number though to apply updates. Did you download them via the Adobe Updates thing-a-ma-bob or did you go to their website and download them manually?
Well, I'm 99% sure the problem is this: I am running 5.5 on a Windows 7 box, but am in the process of moving everything over to the W8 box, since right now it's just sitting there doing nothing. I'm more than willing to bet because it's active on W7, even though it installed and is active on the W8 box, Adobe won't let me apply the updates because it sees the first install.
The flashing icon in the lower right corner that says Adobe Application Manager keeps informing me of updates, so I'm attempting to apply them from there.
Try deactivating on the Win 7 box. You can have it installed and activated on 2 computers though. Is it also activated on another computer somewhere? Even if it was activated on an old hard drive that was replaced it still counts as one activation if you couldn't/didn't deactivate it before replacing the HD.
somebody posted a link to manually update indesign cs6 and cc the other day, but damned if i can't find it. Joe, do you remember that, and can you point me to it?
never mind. i manually updated all the apps from the adobe webpage.
Works for me.
I'm not planning to go to CC and I'm pretty sure that nothing Adobe does can make me do it. Why do we upgrade anything, I mean ever? Because of the increased functionality and to stay compatible with our customer's files.
Ok so the increased functionality argument has been wearing thin since CS4 - not much new has been added since then.
To stay compatible with your customer's files? Ask them to supply PDFs. This is standard practice anyway and it doesn't matter what version of InDesign they were created in.
Once I have upgraded to CS6 (and I'm a way off even seeing the point of even going that far), Adobe won't be getting any more money out of me. If we all did that it would give Adobe something to think about.
I haven't gotten any CC files from print customers. Come to think of it, I don't get files from print customers. I've gotten a few CC Illustrator files from college kids for screen printing, but haven't had any trouble opening them yet. When I do, I'll ask for PDFs. Which means I'll get more JPEGs off the web saved as PDFs. :hangme:
We've only had 2 Illy CC files sent to us since CC came out over a year ago, and they were in the past couple of months. We won't likely update until our key accounts update, and most have indicated that they won't be updating anytime soon. A lot of our clients have large graphics departments that will cost mega-$$$$$ to update to Abode's Rent-all software.
I had 2 straight weeks where about 6-8 of our customers all sent CC files and no pdfs. We had to keep kicking them back to get pdfs, and finally the boss said he was tired of it, and we upgraded to CC. So far, I hate Acro X1, but everything else is about the same.
You will ALL bow down to THE CLOUD.
Adobe will assimilate. :toaster:
Yeah, yeah, yeah... the only people that REALLY like it are the moron customers that don't even know how to generate a PDF let alone work CS1. "Oh, neat-o, a new version of Aduab! Gotta get a requisition in for that! It does neat things like fuck Prepress even more!"
:shoots_self:
I'm sure they have no clue how bad their shitty designs fuck prepress.
If they did it would be far, far worse.
Besides that, what with the perpetual pricing special with Photoshop CC, now even more of your clients can just do everything in Photoshop. :shoots_self:
I'll take that over word.

It's the confessional scene from Boondock Saints where Connor has Rock's head pulled through the screen with a gun to his temple.

Dillinear.

 Thanks for cleaning it up for me.
But, why did Carol Burnett tug on her ear?
Because I like it? :cheesy:
So, you're saying you and the Burnett have some kind of master/slave situation going on? Like she's your mistress, or whatever the kids are calling it these days? Here I thought you spent your free time hiding from 'Squatch hunters.

It was a mess, but I got through it. At about page 14 I was pretty tired of chasing fonts in Word and fixing text wraps, but it looks okay.
