Did anyone else catch on to this new trend in the paper industry? Now they're packaging 20# bond in 750s instead of 500s, 6 packs to a case instead of 10, so for each case instead of an easily divisible 5,000, you now have 4,500. But they charge the same price! That's the biggest scam since they started putting beer in 11 oz. bottles! Most paper trays are set up for 500, so now you have paper standing around getting dusty, damaged, etc., plus you have added labor costs dealing with overs; either repackaging for storage or the spoilage that wouldn't have normally occurred. Or if have a job that needs 10,000 sheets, now you have to order 3 cases instead of 2, for extra $$$, of course. Bunch of bullshit, man!
"There's been a lot of research recently on how hard it is to dislodge an impression once it's been implanted in someone's mind. (This is why political attack ads don't have to be true to be effective. The other side can point out their inaccuracies, but the voter's mind privileges the memory of the original accusation, which was juicier than any counterargument ever could be.)"

Simple solution: Print fewer copies for the same price. :D

They did something similar with toilet paper a few years ago. Made the rolls narrower, but still charge the same amount. Technically you are getting the same length but...

Sugar and ice cream are my pet peeves. Used to be you could buy sugar in 5-lb bags, but a few years ago they all suddenly switched to 4-lb bags at the same price. That's a 20% price hike! I'm surprised the flour industry hasn't adopted this yet.

Ice cream did it a little more nefariously. Used to be 1/2 gallons. Then the premium brands went to 1.75 qt. Once everyone else followed suit and was 1.75 qt for a while, they all went to 1.5 qt, which is only 3/4 of a half gallon. They also started changing the packaging so no longer is the ice cream in a cardboard folding carton, now they are in tubs. This lets them raise the inside "floor" of the tub but still leaves a high lip around the bottom so the package looks taller than what the contents actually contain.

I would rather them leave the sizes alone and just raise the price so everyone knows what is happening.

Canned cat food has been doing this for over a decade. Also dry pet foods, dog and cat, canned people tuna, lard in a 4 lb. instead of a 5 lb. pail, and other things. Haven't seen the paper thing, though, and I hope I don't. Wonder if they'll start doing that with envelopes.

You got me started on cat food!
I have a cat who can be finicky and one who is not.
seems kind of weird that they are not liking the same flavors of cat food.
and they don't eat together so it's not like they are in cahoots on this
I think they are doing something on the cheap now.

I've been tempted to taste the cat food to see what they are eating

No matter what I feed my cats, there is usually one that doesn't like what's on the menu, and it's not always the same one. However, they will occasionally get together and universally dislike a flavor. It's usually after I tried it, they loved it, then I bought a case the next week.

Even some raccoons don't like something the rest do. I've had a couple turn down chicken bones. The rest will fight over them.

I've never understood the concept of a finicky pet. It's an animal, and if it gets hungry enough it will eat whatever you put down for it.

they tried this with dog biscuits here (dried dog food) reduce the packaging size and keep price the same... LOL one of the local big brands got utterly ripped on social media about it! so they reduced the price... briefly...
I guess being in print/packaging I kinda notice when people 'rebrand' in order to reduce packaging size... its such a con.

fuel is the big thing here at the moment: petrol was $2.48 litre NZ when i got back from the states in sept, an all time high, now it has slipped back to 2.06 (in a little over a month) as the govt has decided to investigate fuel company profits... Gee funny thing that

Wow...if my math is right that converts to $9.38782122432 per gallon. I filled up yesterday for $1.86 per gallon. Even the $2.06 per litre comes out to $7.79794827504 per gallon. Please correct my math if that is off.
