It's the new Epson printer.  They actually have a midget with a stylus applying dots 1 at a time, so you can imagine it takes that little guy awhile to output 1 proof.

minutes I believe.

I'm sure they're averages as I'm sure coverage is a big factor.

Agfa Systems / Re: Agfa thermal plates?
October 27, 2008, 01:37:48 PM
Never been a fan of AGFA plates much.  They're image-setters and plate-setters I can't complain much about though.

Personally I've always used Fuji and have been very happy with them.  Last I heard they were about to come out with a true chem-free plate.  That's probably already happened by now I suppose though.

Not bad at all.  Anyone seen the W6200 in action?  24" is about what we're going to be needing.

Quote from: pspdfppdfx on October 27, 2008, 08:13:45 AMAnyone know how to edit individual records without effecting the whole lot? I  mean we have about 1500 addresses and about 10 need to be reflowed on an individual basis....

Here we go again, learning on the fly!!!

The best way to do this is to find a defining characteristic that all those 10 share.  For example they all have addresses are longer than 50 characters.  Then, right a if or ifelse statement Rule for that variable field.  Then export your job again.  That should do it.

We did a similar thing for the package and endorsement field of our mail pieces.  The statement went something like, if there is no endorsement don't show package.  If there is a endoresment, show package.  Something like that.  It's been awhile since I've had to do any of that stuff now that I'm in Project Management.

Quote from: pspdfppdfx on October 22, 2008, 01:15:56 PMJust wondering if anyone has dealt with this program, we're just getting into it.

For the life of me I can't figure out the bleeds when stepping up single pdfs. I could be missing something or the program is defective.

The program is defective.  We had it at my old shop and it really sucked trying to do any job in printshop mail with bleeds!  Most of the time we would just do the VD in YoursTruly Quack version.

Another option would be to output a 1 up PDF with bleeds all around and impose in acrobat with your choice of 3rd party PDF editors.

I would look at other software personally.

So I get the pleasure of suggesting a proofer to purchase.  This proofer will run off a Heidelberg Meta (v5.x I believe) RIP.  So, compatibility is limited.  Below is the list of approved proofers running off this RIP.  We will be getting the 4up version of the proofing software.  Just to get my peers advice (as I'm sure some of you guys have worked with the machinery below), what do you suggest?  Any problems with any of these?  How did you like them?  Are you running anything else with your Meta 5.x that works that is not listed below?

Any help would be appreciated

General Prepress / Re: Is anyone using a JDF workfow?
October 27, 2008, 12:51:17 PM
ah never used signastation, too much automation with too many variables for my taste.  the new stuff is suppose to be good, but you know me, i always prefer to see it in action and use it in action before i agree with all the marketing hype.

No trouble :-) I don't even remember what I typed anyhow.

That seems to be a common issue I keep hearing.  Essentially, "you need to use our entire workflow or things won't work well".  Personally, the most positive things I hear are about the Heidelberg workflow.  I wish I were at GraphExpo to check it out!

Quote from: Exploded on October 25, 2008, 02:46:10 AMHello, we use this everyday to impos for our 3050 using CS3 and I think it rocks. YTD has recently been upgraded to Smart Stream and is a free download and upgrade if you log onto the HP site using your Indigos serial number. And yes YTD can distribute per page in CS3 no probs

Working with a ten page 50X50 indy doc

First thing is to load the standard N_up template (N_up seems to give you more free range to modify all the settings)

Under "Sheet" turn off duplex

Under "Layout" choose

Horizonal 4
Vertical  5

Under that tick distribute

On the first drop down choose pages
On the second drop down choose per job

Easy done
