Title: Acrobat DC (latest) and Pitstop 13 update 1
Post by: pspdfppdfxhd on January 27, 2016, 07:39:38 AM
Just a report:

This morning updated pitstop 13 to update 1 and whenever using on Acrobat DC (not the most recent I guess) but anyway, whenever I used pitstop after the update 1,  Acrobat crashed constantly and I could not use it. DC has not been very stable on this machine to say the least but we've been getting by.

After multiple googe sessions I decided to uninstall Acrobat DC then reinstall the latest. (Acrobat DC whatever).

After reinstalling the original pitstop 13, it is back up and running.

It's hard to say where the problem lies but I would definitely be hesitant to try and upgrade again.

Just a report.

I'm running that combination without any issues. I feel so lucky I may install El Capitan just for the thrill. :D

We don't have any known problems with the DC/PitStop 13.1 combination.
If you do have any issues please contact support@enfocus.com
We'd love to take a look.

Thanks, I am going to try the update again with the latest DC I have installed. When I had the problem it was with the previous DC. BUT NOT IN THE MORNING, LAST THING IN THE DAY.

I had deactivated my pitstop 13 in DC, but I noticed I have pitstop
in Acro 10 and DC, is this normal?

also the output preview problem I was having in DC may have cleared up.
still investigating tho.
not liking DC yet tho.

I think if you have it activated in any version it is activated in all versions. I also think it is licensed per machine meaning if you have Acro 9, 10, 11, and DC installed you are good to use it in all of them.

It is with a volume license here (8 users). It was that way also when we just had single licenses.

Edited to add: You still have to install it separately into each version that you want it to show up in though.

Joe is correct, the license is linked to the machine, not the PitStop version.

Not sure if this crash report means anything to you ABC (could only copy and paste part of it, too many characters to paste all of it).

This is running the latest Acrobat DC with pitstop 13, we can't install the update 1 without it crashing constantly.

Probably would be a good time to open a support case with Enfocus and send them the complete log. Not that it helps I am running that combination. Do you have any other 3rd part plug-ins installed?

Not having any other major problems with any programs (and we have a lot of programs on this Mac) so it seems to be Acrobat and/or pitstop related. I'm blaming Acrobat because of that annoying green sticky thing that happens.

Is there a solution?

It does it in Acrobat XI also and the only solution is to close Output Preview if you need to SHIFT+CLICK anything. But if you do that the next time you try to use it and turn a separation off it will probably cause Acrobat to crash.

Well, Enfocus did a remote investigation on the problem and determined it was something with Acrobat.

I think its something to do with the display... some times the color goes weird and the display goes low res or the zoom tool doesnt work. Then if you turn off a color on the separations view it does not work. Maybe its not compatible with my Mac. I dunno, I give up or ask for a new Mac. Its in its 7th year of service.

That is a known issue with Acrobat XI and DC. Except Adobe says it is not.

I have found when Acrobat crashes frequently while using output preview it helps to delete the Acrobat preferences and start fresh again. Of course that means you have to re-create your toolbars. You can delete your preference file, open Acrobat, set everything up the way you want it. Quit Acrobat. Save a copy of the preference file. Then when it starts crashing frequently again replace the preference file with the copy you saved previously.

Should you have to go through this with a product you paid big bucks for? No but it is Adobe we are talking about.

Also Adobe fixed the problem where if you turn off a separation with no PDF open it will crash but only in Acrobat DC. If you do that in Acrobat XI you will still get an immediate crash. Fresh preference file or not.

We'll keep a vigilante eye out for your return. ;D

Is that part of Pitstop where you create a Monotype account and buy the fonts to fix them. It is against my customers religion to pay for anything prepress related because 1) It looks good on their screen and 2) Their last printer never had any problems with their files.
Title: Re: Acrobat DC (latest) and Pitstop 13 update 1
Post by: pspdfppdfxhd on March 24, 2016, 06:22:25 PM
yes but you dont have to pay for the monotype thing unless you want to, it still works. At least it shows you if the font is actually esential to the job. sometimes i am finding the missing font is in the background behind a picture box or something and not an issue. One of our clients is very fond of pasting new stuff over old crap and when imposing we get the dreaded font missing warning. We need to know where that might be.

It works great if you have the fonts on your system and you can fix them for free!
which is the case for the crappy pdfs that don't have Times and Arial embedded

I don't think so though you can add the navigation buttons to your toolbar like first, previous, next, and last page buttons. Or do you need to actually see the thumbnails? I don't like to see the thumbnails as it slows down everything you do as it has to constantly redraw the thumbnails.

sometimes I need the thumbnails.
I think what I need is shortcut to open them. I will try and see if I can add it to my toolbar.
Thanks Joe!

You can add the thumbnails button to your toolbar using 'Customize Quick Tools...'. It is under 'Organize Pages'===>'Page Thumbnails'..

Can only assume that the renderer still has to render/store all that hidden crap. On nasty looking ones I try and slect all the 'required' stuff, Hide that, go to WireFrame, marquee/select>Delete... leave WireFrame>Show All. Gotta be careful though.

Bear in mind we're in suspended animation here, re upgrades.
