Adobe InDesign / Re: Double Hit Spot Swatch
March 06, 2017, 01:30:29 PM
Hmm... how complex is the design? If it isn't too bad, you might be able to add a stroke of your double hit swatch in indesign/illustrator and set the stroke to overprint. That would stop the trap from doing what it is doing. Otherwise, if it is text that is trapping, turning it to overprint if it isn't already should do it.

I'll poke around the settings more and see what might help out better.

Try adjusting the trap settings to choke? That or the others. I've had to fiddle with the trap settings before on a PITA job for a super picky customer before. Design firms, I tell ya.

I've got a similar problem. I have to binge play anything these days or I end up making a new character/starting over when I pick it back up again. I finally beat the main quest line in Skyrim last September.

Regarding PC building, I'm about a year behind so I may be little help. Last year I was contemplating replacing my Asus gaming laptop with an inexpensive setup and did a ton of research. An article I read, I believe on Tom's Hardware, spoke about gaming not necessarily requiring quad core CPUs yet and that you can get more bang for your buck if you get a faster, 3.5+ GHz dual core. Old information I know, but it could be of help. Maybe?  :-\

My laptop is a bit old, a 2010 Asus g73sw but it still runs most games alright with an i7 quad core with 2.9 GHz turbo boost, 8 GB DDR3 and an NVidia GTX 460M with 1.5 GB DDR5. New games it probably would laugh at however.

Macintosh / Re: Shared drive weirdness
December 20, 2016, 12:13:09 PM
Our iMacs are weird about shared drives too. We have two iMacs both using the same account credentials for an admin user for a shared Lacie 5Big Nas Pro. Back in October we started to have permissions issues on files we normally wouldn't have problems with such as read only indesign files and an inability to delete or copy anything. I tested using a different admin login which seemed to work for a while and now anything touched by that admin can't be touched by the other admin account. Their both in the admin group with full read/write access. Macs are goofy with shared drives. The macs at the last shop I was at had permissions issues all the time.

What OS are the Mac and the Prinergy server running? Sometimes they'll run different versions of Samba and not work properly.

Oh crazy. I would think a color copier's 4 clicks would be less costly than enough plates for that many forms.

Good luck Joe, I think you'll need it.

I just realized you're running this on your color copier. I would suggest running the 4 color on press (not sure how big your shop is) then trimming the sheets down to letter size, and running them on your copier with a black only variable data PDF.

Otherwise I think a 5,000+ page PDF is the only other way to do it in this case.

My PDF's aren't that large generated from the data merge within InDesign. Are you printing them separately (i.e. Imprint the variable PDFs on a xerox) or all on press?

The Data Merge PDF's however do take quite a while to make in that number. We do 8pg mailers for a casino in our area and it takes about 45 minutes to an hour to generate the data, though that's also with variable linked coupons, another fun step in the variable data world.

Hey Joe,

We do this stuff all the time. We use InDesign too. At my old shop we used an HP Smartstream plugin to do variable, but I've found the default variable data within InDesign to be very flexible and I actually prefer it.

You can import your variable data as a CSV file in InDesign in the Data Merge Window you can import your data source. Then in the Content Placement Options menu check the box that says "Remove Blank Lines for Empty Fields".

Instead of the word "OR", I would place the <Business/Organization Name> above the <Title>etc. line and that should get you what you need.

Let me know if that helps.

QuoteNo I couldn't stand 44 weeks of vacation a year. (because anytime you try to contact anyone there they are on vacation)

Unless they're trying to sell you something. Then you're contacted like crazy.

I'll just install over what I have. We have our system backed up on Time Machine & CrashPlan so I shouldn't lose anything. Plus we keep our working files on a networked raid share so we're pretty safe.

I'm not all that scared. Just have to find time to do it.

I wanted to give everyone an update.

I heard from Fuji today. My version of XMF, 6.1.2 is cleared for Mac OS X 10.9, 10.10, 10.11 & 10.12. Sounds good to me. Also sounds like 6.5 will be coming out soon.

I'll probably be updating soon as I've got a few issues with some of my Apple programs running in 10.10.

Alright. Thank you for your help everyone!

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forums but I've landed here a few times in searches to solve various issues in the past. I was hoping someone here has made the courageous leap to Mac OS Sierra? Are there any bugs I should know about? I have Yosemite now and was going to update to El Capitan but apparently I missed the boat.

I have another compatibility question regarding a font manager and Sierra but should I post that in a separate area of the forums? I'm using FontAgent Pro 4.202. Is anyone else using it?

Thank you for your help!
