Hey everyone,

I have an old EPS logo that was created in Illustrator probably ten years ago (and hasn't been used in nearly that long), but after copying it off the backup CD it's been on, I keep getting errors both placing it in InDesign and opening it in Illustrator.

In Illustrator, it says, "Can't open the illustration. The illustration contains an incomplete or garbled object description. Offending operator:  "  "

If anyone can help out with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
John

Joe

Sounds like the image on the CD is not any good/corrupt. Is it a known good CD archive you have used in the past? Maybe try pulling the image off using a different computer.

I was able to open it after getting the error message, but it's only 2 words

Try making a new Illustrator file, then placing the old one into it. That sometimes solves problems.

Good news, everyone!

I found a grayscale version of this logo on a different archive CD and was able to open it without incident and change it back to Pantone spot colors.

So thanks for your help and comments/suggestions.

On to the next crisis...

Tried that -- got a PostScript error...  :shoots_self:

After that, I remembered that sometimes I've had success in using Preview to convert newer Illustrator files into a PDF that I'm then able to edit in Illustrator CS4, so I gave that a spin.

Guess what? "Unknown Error -- Unable to open file".   :hangme:

Cheers, John

Nothing really offends me. Offensive? Why yes. I don't have many friends.  :embarrassed:
