I know I asked this somewhere before but for the life of me can't find it right now. So... Awhile back I was having FH issues and had to reinstall. My fonts then chose NOT to print unless changed to paths. After a couple weeks or so, they magically started to work. Yesterday, I got my pretty, shiny new iMac and copied everything over to it, and guess what???? Again, the freaking fonts won't print! Any ideas? Do I try to reinstall? Or do I just float along and see if FH starts to cooperate in a couple weeks again....

What kind of Font Management software are you using?
Font Book. I'm NOT really a fan.
Try FEX
Font Book is the devil. At least it was when I tried to use it a few years ago.
That is the problem... NOT Freehand.
Go get a free copy of Linotype Font Explorer and start living free.
If FEX free? And I'll have to run this by my supervisor before I dl and install something on the pretty, shiny new machine. Dammit anyway. Of course, like I said - the last time this happened, it straightened itself out after a couple weeks. :angry:
Did your clean your font caches? In Quark TOO? Chelle, if you don't, you are going to see things like this continue, even wih FEX.
FEX is no longer free.
The New version isn't. The original one that we run is.
OK - I just got the go ahead on Font Explorer. Since I'm feeling a bit stupid today - maybe my brain is frozen - just refresh my memory on cleaning the font cache.

You will need a program like ONYX to do this.

OK, Font Gods, which is your preferred way to manage fonts with FEX: copying or moving?

Copying if you want to keep the originals. Moving deletes the originals.

The fonts in those folders are open all of the time. If all of your fonts are open all of the time you don't need a font manager. FEX is for opening and closing fonts sets for differing jobs.
I would not add any fonts at installation. After it's installed I would create font sets for each job. Then drag and drop fonts onto that font set and it will copy the fonts from the original location to your FEX folder in your "Users:~:Linotype Font Explorer" folder. Then you can open and close the fonts sets at will.
OK - Some fonts I DO want open all the time because I do those jobs literally on a daily basis - hotel jobs, etc.
How about the option to install special plug-ins for intercepting font requests? :huh: Man alive, this is fancy! :laugh:

I do us that feature for the apps it lists that I have. Works pretty good.
Now, if I unload all the fonts from that OTHER folder, FEX should run the show, right? :huh:

Oh - I wondered if I unloaded the fonts in that Library folder if FEX would then take care of everything, BUT I have the FEX open and the fonts loaded in THAT (no I didn't unload the other folder yet), and I cleaned the caches, rebooted and WOOHOO! I just printed one thing out of FH and the fonts work. Thanks, Joe and DCS. I love you guys! :kiss:

Be careful what you unload from the system font folders. There are required fonts in there that if you remove them your Mac won't run. There is a list around here somewhere. Probably in the "Fonts" category.

Don't move Geeza and Geeza Pro! You'll never use them, but the Macaroo likes them there. It's probably also connected to 2012 Winter Solstice.
here is a list of fonts that need to be permanently in your system fonts folder:
courier
geeza pro bold
geeza pro
geneva
helvetica
keyboard
lastresort
lucidagrande
monaco
empty out the library-fonts folder completely, and user-library-fonts folder. i then made a alias of my user-library-fonts folder, and drag and drop fonts for each job i need, and simply drag them out and secure empty trash them when done. then drag in fonts for the next job. once we started doing that, that was the end of all our font issues. over 5 years, no 3rd party font software, no issues whatsoever. we do clean out font caches with onyx as mentioned earlier.
