Random Technology / Re: Setting up business emails
April 13, 2023, 01:48:47 PM
We use Microsoft Exchange/Office 365. I think its $4 per user for a 50gb mail box. If you want office programs along with email it's $10 per user but you can have 5 or so installs per user.

Quote from: Rodi on April 07, 2023, 11:31:34 AMWell,
Thanks Adobe and Pantone. So there are workarounds, but try doing a monotone with spot arrrrggggghhhhh.

This is another reason I utilize Serif products (even the old v 1.9s will always now have Pantone color books) to mitigate this. I make plates for an separate but same building envelope company. Gotta track down that old Photoshop I have.

Rodi, does Serif's programs have Separations Preview yet?

I had this problem with a batch of light cyan cartridges on our Sure Color P8000. I think the chips were faulty. Fuji replaced them and I think the 3rd or 4th cartridge was fine again.

You can kind-of help by putting a sheet of cover stock under the cartridge to lift it and make it make full contact with the chip reader, but this only worked for a few prints before it would decide it didn't like it.

Fujifilm XMF / XMF Plate Question
January 19, 2023, 02:04:23 PM
Hey guys, we were watching a demo today on XMF Pressready and our demo gal was also answering some questions on XMF when I noticed regardless of what press she was setting up for, her plate icon didn't change but her plate info did.

Right now, we have separate plate icons for the different presses as well as matching press icons. The plate icon if we have to change presses for whatever reason, paper or scheduling, we have to reimpose or save as template. This seems cumbersome. I tried toying around with it after the demo but changing the press, doesn't change the plate media on the plate icon. Is there a way to get that to change along with the press?

Thanks!

Bindery / Re: JDF For a new cutter
October 04, 2022, 01:05:14 PM
Oh interesting. We send CIP3 data to our presses from XMF. It's apparently the end of the world if the pressmen need to figure out how to do things without it.

Oh that's awesome. I kinda wish our cutters had that setup. I think they're JDF capable, but bindery just makes their own programs on them and they're not connected to the network at all.

From what I can see on the plugin's page it will include those 15,000+ swatches for free. The paid version adds a dozen or so features to create custom palettes and other un-important sounding junk.

I guess the normal Pantone+ Coated CMYK, Uncoated CMYK, and Metalic swatch books are to remain in Adobe software. I don't think they're up-to-date on the books within InDesign anyway, (still using v2 I think?) but if you have a newer book, you can download the swatchbook and manually plug them into InDesign or any other adobe program.

Adobe Acrobat / Re: GREEN STICKY NOTE RETURNS

Somehow that check box got unchecked. Could an update do that? I doubt it, must have been me.

If Acrobat crashed, that box may have been unchecked if preferences got corrupt and rebuilt on the next app startup. I haven't had that specific setting reset itself, but my user interface with custom icon placements and tools on the right palette revert to default on occasion.

Adobe InDesign / Re: InDesign Merge Mail Bar Codes

We do this all the time too. Our barcode font is called USPSIMBStandard.ttf and our mail house says the font needs to be 16pt with default spacing.

USPSIMBStandard.ttf.zip

Macintosh / Re: New Shop Macs-Need Advice
September 26, 2022, 11:09:14 AM
If you have any apps that worked on Big Sur on an Intel Machine, the M1 should be able to run them. I know Office 365 was intel and had to be installed with Rosetta, but they did come out with a Universal version later on. Same with Adobe. If you have Office 365, it'll install the Universal version.

We have M1 Mini's here at our shop and they are very fast. Got them and 27" 4k monitors for about $1,000 total (already had mice and keyboards) when the M1 Mini's came out and haven't had an issue. Though originally XMF hadn't had a version that would work on Big Sur or M1 at the time and now they do. I think, but could be wrong, that XMF supports Monterey too now.

HAH, small update. Sent a job over to it to print and it gave the "No Ink Installed" error. I checked things out some more and had a thought to try to lift the cartridge up slightly, stuck a piece of cover stock under it, closed the door and now it works perfectly. My guess is misaligned chips or the cartridge guides are somehow worn down.
