probably no help but if you dropped your job in indesign as a multi page job you can re-arrange the pages - then run a script to add page numbers. might need a bit of picking about with though

Actually he isn't banned anymore. When I switched the forum software back to SMF a few months ago all of the bans went away.

bans go away.

General Prepress / Re: Oversize PDFs
February 12, 2018, 01:49:45 AM
:drunk3: :git off mah lawn: generally artwork is done to a scale value - i.e. say 25% of final size of 50% or whatever. Depending on the project and file sizes yeah jobs can arrive full size Most RIPS for wide format can blow up files to huge sizes (think building wraps) and on the whole make a good job of it. since ya don't really design in "pdf" the most important thing is that the artwork is to scale

since i dint trust designers (shocking news) i prefer to drop artwork into illustrator and check the scaling and tiling and export out again

i work for a global giant. i think either fixed palette or EG is on the cards. i get the principal and the commercial reasoning. we have flexo and litho. not entirely convinced. i am sure our R&D gang are looking into it as its been mentioned a few times

we use bridge conversions - this gives us the nearest consistent breakdown, and you can of course choose a visual alternative if needed. we use bridge all the time if a job comes in with too many colours - works for us

i'm told we are the 6th largest print packaging company in the world. it sucks

at our 2 plants we have 1 komori 40 inch, a kba VLF, x3 gallus webs, x2 cut/crease & a shit loada finishing stuff i know nothing about

as for the rest of the "group" - well one plant has 10 presses that i know of but i have no idea what the hell the rest of this monster does. and i'm past caring mostly :drunk3:

yeah true - i agree totally and the licensing thing is a real pita

we have desighners who take "ard" one ups from cad (artios), expand structural design layers as needed and dezine away. dozens and dozens of external agencies etc do the same thing (its awesome when they change a window on a flexo job and dont tell us - then wonder why there's a 1200 pound charge for a new rotry die)

when we get that artwork, we replace the expanded ard with a live ard that is linked to the multi up mfg layout. we also expand the bleed layer to create varnish plates if needed - which in food and fmcg is very very important.

we also use the dynamic barcodes all the time, and power trapper for everything (powercrapper as i call it is - well - not brilliant)

all of this is before it heads into plato and automation engine - so if the software can fit into these stages and handle those things then i CAN see a place for it in larger companies like mine. IF it becomes successful - well wont esko just buy it and shelve it (odobe - freehand....)?

CTP - CTF / Re: Azura TS plate issues
March 01, 2015, 03:19:41 AM
from way back i remember run length went waaaay down with metallics. on something like cfbb board sometimes we got around 100k for process stuff - ended up making 2 or 3 plates for the metallics - i'd forgotten bout that

we got a 9900 with spectro at our place. the nozzles are clogged and no amount of cleaning, power cleaning, voodoo or swearing at it will clear them. its been un verified for weeks now - i have told my manager we need the techs in and it will most likely be a new printhead

this might help anyone permanently unclog their printheads - helped me, i followed it to the letter

on my old screen ctp it did also have a way to check on laser status by sneakily logging in as an engineer - dunno if your system has anything that "adavnced"? you did say it was old. if cleaning works the lasers are ok. if cleaning doesnt work well maybe not so much

from my experience with these azura plates, i'd be surprised if this WAS a plate issue, but i'm seldom surprised these day!

sorry for the two posts - gotta keep my post count up or they'll chuck me out

although its been a while i did use azura plates at my old place - no issues at all

it sounds like a laser issue dropping power to create the dot - it kinda doesnt hit optimal "window" for power, which is when the surface hardens, and therefore no dot - now this WILL move around on the plate as the lasers fluctuate in power during imaging - one time it could hit power then fade - or start slow and gain power

i'd deffo start cleaning stuff first and see the results. run a test plate of say 4 or 5 % dot all over when yer done and see how it goes

yeah but in reality how many of these actually sell - i just dont see many new investments in the current climate to get a new workflow and associated plug ins etc - esko has got it sown up clean

Esko / esko plug ins and cc2014
January 01, 2015, 12:45:23 AM
 :deadhorse:

anyone used the esko packedge plug ins with the illy CC2014 software? any issues?

have got to look into this - the studio "manager" hasnt got a fcucking clue about this stuff and the newer software is now being used in the desighn team, and the inevitable "created by a newer version" warning is heading my way, i just know it

kinda pisses me off that our "manager" is so detached from prepress/repro and its always me with any kind of future improvement suggestions etc - even the more experienced operator here really only knows whats in front of him - there seems to be little research by anyone which considering the size of this company now is staggering
