Could there be a way to adjust printer marks position - crop marks especially, bringing them closer ( or further ) to my trimbox with pitstop?

If i want to move them further i can delete them all using one action, then create new ones with acrobat.

But if i want to move them closer?

I'm hoping i can adjust the current marks distance somehow!

Thanks in advance!

DCurry

Here's an action that lets you add marks at whatever offset you desire.

@DCurry
Mind if I upload that one to the PitStop user group on Linkedin?
We have a nice thread running up there with useful Action Lists.

Sure, share it. Lord knows I've been helped by others enough times over the years.

Thanks very much Dan!

I don't want to sound ungrateful cause i'm sure it wil be usefull some day but what i'm asking is if the marks already produced by illy or inDesign could be changed/moved.

So probably they can't, first you delete them then ad new ones i quess, or else abc would have told us!

Thanks again!

DCurry

Yes, I figured that was what you really wanted, but I don't know of a way to do that. You could build a Quick Run that links actions together so that with one click you could Remove Printer Marks and add the new ones at your desired offset.

I guess it could be done but it would be a heap of work. You'd have to work out a way to select each mark and change it's position.

It's easier to delete the existing ones and add new ones I think.

Joe

And you would need to move registration marks and the white marks too.

The easiest way would be to change the offset number when outputting the PDF from InDesign.

Personally, printer marks a waste of time. They are never right so why bother?

I honestly think some of our customers think like that. "Since we are getting charged for prepress time, might as well make them work for it".  :shoots_self:

I love when they have every single mark possible on there.

And then have a cyan stroke showing where it cuts.

and still the wrong size.

and no bleed.

We don't fight it anymore. We insist there be no marks and if they send it with marks anyway we delete them and then re-size + or - the artwork to fit the trim size that, by the way, the customer has no idea what it is?

ah yes, all the marks (color bars included) offset by 1/16 of an inch. But they set the bleed ok at 1/8 inch.

Love that pitstop action that strips all of that crap away. BOOM! Press that run button and they all get blown off REAL GOOD! :drunk3:

You just gotta watch if they have some complex Illustrator graphic at the edge - I've see it remove parts of illustrations that technically fall outside of the trim box, but when removed affect something that is supposed to remain intact (like with masks and such.)

9 times outta 10, though, it works great.
