Quote from: DigiCorn on March 05, 2024, 03:34:02 PMFirst time I've ever seen that word; flog. I like it. Don't know what it means, but waiting to break it out in conversation to tell someone to flog off.
That context works quite well.

One can also flog themselves ie: spank the monkey, run one through the knuckles etc.

I was using it in the context that the person was being compared to the end product of the process of having a flog.

Quote from: Tracy on February 23, 2024, 08:10:32 AMHey that sound like a good feature overprint on plate and knockout on the proof!
I never knew it could do that!
Just keep in mind, Black should ALWAYS overprint. Unless the printer is a flog and you want to piss him off.
Fixed it for you

Adobe Acrobat / Re: Update to Acrobat caused problems

Quote from: Foozball on February 15, 2024, 12:54:54 PMHowever, I just heard from the sender "yeah, she made in CANVA, but it's still a PDF" ... I still haven't tried to take a Canva file to print (unlike you "lucky" guys), but all bets are off now.
Canva, Australia's most embarrassing export.

My go to with Canva files - Re postscript, drop into Indesign, re export to PDF.

I find that most times the trim box is not exactly the correct size when pdf comes from Canva. Yesterday I had 1 that was supposed to be A4 (210 x 297mm). Actually size was 209.362 x 296.412. Created all kinds of issues with line ups when imposed. Very thin white lines on spine because the file slots into the imposition layout at top left corner X and Y = 0.

Even laying it up in Indesign was problematic because there were curved graphics that crossed the spine on facing pages and they needed to be lined up.

Have I ever mentioned I hate Canva, it's almost a fucking virus on your computer.

Adobe Acrobat / Re: Update to Acrobat caused problems

Quote from: pspdfppdfxhd on February 02, 2024, 11:27:43 AMYes, just to the document pallet, but if you need to create something with a spot color and you import the pdf you could use that color in your document. So, you could import a pdf with all the Pantone colours you need and then select those colours and export those swatches and reload them back into a new document and they're in there. I tried it and it seemed to work. Still feeling like I am missing something though.

So there is a project in the making. Make a pdf with all the spot colours in it and place it in any document that needs spot colours. Gunna take a while to filter the ones you don't need out, but it is a workaround. ;D ;D

Quote from: DigiCorn on January 24, 2024, 07:49:43 PMI think I'm lucky; I have forgotten all I know about SignaStation. The ONLY thing I remember, and it may or may not still be a feature, but your could strip/impose in layers, which is particularly helpful for varnishes and dielines. Beyond that, I remember nothing; it's been 20 years!
seems like i'm luckier, up until yesterday I hadn't even heard of it  ;D ;D

Quick Dirty Fix is to reorder the pages in Acrobat so they fall where they need to in Signa. Never used Signa but this is what I do if I can't get the impo to work as I want.

Quote from: David on December 20, 2023, 04:29:32 PMhad the almost same thing happen...

hard drive for Film setter RIP died, replaced the drive, re-installed the software, got everything to work except could not "print" to film.  Found out the USB dongle would not let you finish the install was due to the fact that it was linked to the old hard drive.

needed to buy new dongle, updated software, etc....

so, we don't have a film setter anymore.
That sucks, and should be illegal.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas and happy new year to you also.

Problem solved (kinda)

Tried everything suggested and some other stuff as well, then contacted Wasatch support. They got back to me fairly promptly.

"Thank you for your recent web inquiry.     The older licenses do not support remote desktop with our USB security keys.   If remote desktop is needed, it is recommended to upgrade to our subscription licensing.  Our new licensing includes a Cloud key which is dongle-less.   Subscriptions can be purchased directly on our website for immediate release.

***  Note, Agfa support requires our Premium 2 drivers.

Please let me know if you have any questions."

Translated into Australian that means it's not gunna happen. ::)

it's a usb dongle and it is ok when working from pc.

my understanding of MRD is that I'm just driving it remotely, I would have thought that all the bits and pieces hanging of it would continue to be recognised.

The Rest... / Wasatch Softrip 7.2
December 18, 2023, 08:06:15 PM
We have an old PC running Windows 7 that has Wasatch Softrip 7.2 which is the rip for our Anapurna M2 Flatbed Printer.

I have set up a Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection from the Mac to this computer and have no issues connecting.

Problem arises when I access the Rip via MRD.

Softrip runs a dongle on the PC that has licensing on it.

Softrip is not recognising the dongle when accessed from Mac through MRD.

Any suggestions?
