Can someone help me score a point.   :cheesy:  Dezinger (in-house), sends me a CS file. It's 'missing plugins', the usual signal it's a later version than she's got installed, (CS3 in her case). She phones and says. "When I do a Get Info on it it says it's CS3". I say: "sounds like a CS4 file to me...I'll let you know". I'd never bothered with RoroHiko's InDesign Proxy before before, but after I'd successfully opened it in CS4 anyway, I quit CS4, had CS3 open. It launched CS4 and opened it. ....I just wanted a diagnosis.
If someone with only up to CS3 installed does a Cmd+I, it will only be showing the 'best possible' app to try and open it...correct? It's not telling you that it was created in CS3.  :undecided:

I think COMMAND+I shows the latest version of the application that you have installed. Meaning if you have CS4 installed it will say all InDesign files are CS4 files regardless of what version they were created in. In her case it says CS3 because that's the latest version she has installed. If I try to open an InDesign CS4 file on my Mac at home that only has CS3 on it I get the following errors and it will not open the InDesign CS4 file.

Diagnosis confirmed.

The only current Download site I could find for InDesign Proxy was here In case anyone's interested.

I think you are looking for Soxy.

I think Soxy must be the fuller-featured app which works in the background. Maybe that's why they don't feature Proxy on their site now. I may pay for Soxy at some stage though. Thanks for the pointer.

With the ID file open, Shift + CMD and go to the "About InDesign" from the ID menu.
Shows a ton of nifty info, especially the history of the file, and versions it was saved in..
