So I started a new job in October at a local Screen Printing Company.
We have been using Ill CS6 since I started here. Today we noticed spot colors are showing up as book colors and when we convert them to CMYK, we get goofy formulas like a file done in RGB and then Converted to CMYK.

I think Adobe and Pantone may have opened up a big cluster f@#k with this one.

Hey everybody,
I have a buddy who works at a print shop and he is ripping PDFs then dropping the fops into his Preps job. He then prints the impo file which, btw is saving out of Preps with an .eps suffix not .sig. When the impo file gets done ripping it is applying unneccesary trapping. Is there a way in Preps to change the suffix to .sig not .eps? If doing this do you think that might solve the problem? I've been out of work for a couple months now so the old prepress noodle is getting a little fuzzy. I appreciate any help we can give him.

Does anybody use Flightcheck?
I've gotten too used to double checking things when I open InDesign docs (or Quack).
Had a job on press we're running for a small printshop that couldn't run the job, so they gave us the files.
Well, a couple photos placed were lo-rez and didn't get caught until the press OK.
Customer says to our salesman,"why don't you have Flightcheck, it only costs $100?"
wtf?

I have a customer that creates a newsletter in Publisher and saves out a .ps file for us to use.
I take their .ps file and distill it to make a pdf.
Well, one of the pages was missing a photo when we printed it.
Heres my question - If a customer gives you a .ps file and you distill it, would a picture that they claim is there disappear in the process?
On a side note, When I open the pdf in Illustrator, all the other photos show up in the links palette and where the photo that they claim is there all I get is a white box and nothing in the links palette for that photo except a white box.

I have this InDesign doc from a customer that won't open.
I have CS5 up to date (I checked). The only thing I can see is that when I open Extension Manager, I don't have SharedContent.InDesignPlugin.
Where do I get that to see if that resolves the problem?

I got a job that the customer added their Co. name to the end of the Pantone color.
Well, when it gets sent over to our Epson as a Spot color it changes the the color. I understand the whole color libraries crap, so I want to just change the name in the swatches pallette in InDesign. Well, when I go to do that, its grayed out. I can't change the name, I can't even delete it.

Okay, first off I'm pretty sure I saw this problem on here somewhere but I don't know where it was.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can't just type the Job Number to get to the folder on the server, I have to scroll to get to the folder to select or open it.?

I would like to add a pdf to our website. I want people to click on a link and have the pdf open in another window.
I can't get this to work. Does the pdf need to be in its own "pdfs" folder, or can it just go in the "images" folder like all the other images for the website?

When outputting a pdf from Quack using the Press Quality settings there is a color shift issue.
The color setting was set as Composite CMYK.
The designer placed an Il eps which is 100% black and Quack changes the formula to C-73, M-72, M-69, K-55 ?
I changed the color setting to As is and that worked.
Whats up with that?

Got a customer who gives us an Excel file. He places a bunch of images on it.
He did not send the images to us that he placed.
He swears the images are on the Excel file he gave us.
I open the Excel file, right click on the image(s) and save picture(s) as . . .
They're not Hi-Rez.  Am I doing something wrong?

When using the creep feature in Preps 5.3, do the templates made, need to be set up right? By that I mean, if you make a 16 page sig (8.5 X 11 pages) and you set them up as "flat work" will creep still work?

I just upgraded one of our macs to Snow Leopard and now I can't get our Laser Printer set up.
Its on the network. I have the IP.  How the heck do I get it set up?  Quack 7.3 won't launch, Word won't launch, Excel won't launch, Powerpoint won't launch.  I'm going to upgrade those so I'm not too worried about those right now.

We got 2 macs running 10.4.11 OS. Both macs are running CS4 Design Standard, Quark 7.3, Suitcase 10, Preps 5.3.  Anything I need to look out for?  Should I do the OS upgrade first before upgrading any apps?  I know CS5 won't run on 10.4.

I've had to deal with an issue thats getting to be real pain.
Some customers send us image files with long ass names that we can't copy over our network to our server.
Files are being copied over to the server from our Mac workstations.  I was told a while ago that Extreme zip would solve this. Does that make sense?

I got this client who saves out a Publisher pdf. The problem is,the job is 11 X 8.5 when the pdf is made it comes out portrait, chopping off the right side of the pages. I went to their site and was messing around trying to get a good pdf to no avail. (avail, man thats gay)
The job has full bleed and is an 8 pager.
I've changed the page size to 11.25 X 8.75 in the publisher file to create the bleed.
I saved out a ps file and ran that through their distiller 8. I get a syntax error and can't save out a pdf.
I tried saving the pdf from Publisher using different settings, no luck. The pdf comes out as 8.5 X 11 chopping off the right side of the pages.
WHATCHA THINK?

I've seen pdfs come through our shop with the job option used to create the pdf(s) as an attachment within the pdf. How is this done. The reason I'm asking is because I've created a job option for our company and I am curious if this is something I could set up so when a customer uses our settings they will appear in their pdf.

Anyone ever try to do this. If so, ya got some instructions I could look over. I'm thinking about trying to do this myself.
