Kodak Preps / Generating JDF for MBO folder
July 20, 2022, 08:04:30 AM
I am guessing this is likely where I should post this information.

My Company just bought a new MBO folder for our bindery.  The guys from Germany are here helping get things all set up and fine tuned.  One thing they need is a JDF file to add to their front end hot folder which should contain all of the folding information for the job.  Our workflow is Prinergy 8.3 which is integrated with Preps 8.3.  The only place I encounter JDF is with Preps, so I am guessing that is where I get the information they are looking for. We tried just adding the JDF file that shows up in the System/Imposition plans/Preps folder to try, but it had no folding information.
So I went to Preps preferences and on the Output tab I needed to check on Include JDF folding Data.  This seemed to change the makeup of the JDF file to include this information.  I was wondering about the "Include HTML file with JDF output for WST equipment setup" - Is this where I can make a file that is put to the hot folder destination on the MBO front end? If so, I think all I need is a share created.

I just want to know if I am on the right track before I start testing.

Kodak Systems / Complex traps?
June 03, 2020, 08:32:24 AM
I seem to be missing something when it comes to trapping bitmaps.  I have a file that is a 1200 dpi bitmap that is colored Pantone 7455 which is placed on top of a Pantone 128 solid fill.  For some reason it considers the bitmap to be a complex bitmap (whatever) and ignores it.  I have even told used trap editor to tell it to trap all, but it still won't trap it.  What am I missing?  My old antiquated system prior to switching to Prinergy could do it, but not this "state of the art" system.

I have a Mac running the latest OS of 10.14.5 Mojave.  For some reason, I cannot connect to my Prinergy server.  The server is a Dell box running Windows Server 2012R2.  All of my older Macs and PCs have no trouble connecting but this new imac will not allow me to connect to the needed shares to work within Workshop. I should also mention that in order to use Workshop on this mac, we had to update to Prinergy 8.3.  Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Fujifilm XMF / Puzzleflow - anyone ever use it?
January 26, 2015, 04:49:29 PM
Okay, long story short, I am abandoning a company that I have been with for 20 years to start a whole new job.   I was put into a very awkward position where I had to decide if I wanted to continue to "carry" this company any longer.  All done and ready for some change, I am on my last week of work and start a new job next Monday.  The new job uses Puzzleflow, which I have heard of, but have no knowledge about how it works.  Anybody else use it?

Adobe InDesign / Indesign CS5 Requirements for MAC?
January 26, 2011, 12:38:27 PM
I have found myself facing the reality that I will have to update to CS5 soon.  Is it true that in order to run CS5 I will have to be running an Intel Mac?  Currently I have 2 G5 PPC, is it possible to run CS5 on one of these older boxes?

Okay this is a dumb question but I need to know exactly what I tell the Salesman about why the color on their job doesn't match last time we printed it.  I picked up a PDF page from a previously printed job and place it in a supplied Quark 6 file.  Printed as composite CMYK to a postscript file then normalized to a PDF.  I realized after the proof was bounced back to my department that one of the images within the place PDF was RGB and when Quark converted to CMYK for the postscript it did a shitty job of converting .  If I open the RGB image in Photoshop and convert to CMYK it gives me a completely different set of numbers than what I got from the PDF .  BTW Quark was not using CMS.

Apparently the last time we printed this particular add the RGB was converted by our RIP so it did a good job of it and it looked correct.  Exactly what is the root cause of the color shift since I'm not using any kind of color profile when printing.

BTW - I'm on the same page as the rest of you as far as wishing for the demise of Quark but I'm stuck with it .
