Adobe InDesign / Re: free imposition for Indesign
January 28, 2016, 03:21:23 PM
Dang, I used Croptima since CS5. Nice impo program for $60.00

The only issue i had with it was that you could not create gutters in imperial ruler fractions (.25" for 1/4")
as their programmers decided that a .02 step was the way to go. When I asked if a fix was comin, their response was, "it's only a tenth of an inch, how big a deal can it be?" That was a huge warning to me, but i kept hoping since everything else works really slick.
I had been putting off updating since Adobe updates with the seasons now, i thought i could wait another cycle before updating.
RIP Croptima.

General Prepress / Re: Who's busy?

so busy here that I'm putting stickers on promotional books. They didn't start that way, they were done wrong at the bindery, only half the pages were put in (repeating pattern). So now they are promo stuff, or says the sticker. Only about 10,000 more to go.
Yeah, I wish we were busy...

I wonder if is possible impose 2  files, head to head or foot to foot.

You may get the result you want by rotating the files 90 degrees prior to bringing into the imposition program.
Not the best way, but completely doable.

CTP - CTF / Re: Need a Screen service technician
July 28, 2015, 01:39:12 PM
Thanks Ear, I will give them a call. Seems like the other option I have is also a California company, Rare Group inc.
The guy seemed to know his stuff, but was almost same price as Screen.

CTP - CTF / Need a Screen service technician
July 21, 2015, 04:21:04 PM
Hey all, i am hoping that someone knows a good tech for Screen (Platerite 4100) platesetters. An LD calibration warning came up today, and I know zilch about how to remedy. I called our guy but he kinda disappeared on us.

Seattle area preferably. Thanks in advance.

Fujifilm XMF / Re: Creeping in and out
July 17, 2015, 02:08:41 PM
Quote from: Joe on July 16, 2015, 12:26:54 PMCreep works by using the full distance at the center pages and less as it moves outward. The center pages move the full distance while the outer pages don't move at all. I've seen places use the creep in/out method but I don't really get why. I think DCS did it that way. There are a few discussions around here on the subject.
I have had to use creep out and in on projects with narrow margins. Usually some forms booklet with a border around each form, to keep the border reveal the same. If we used only creep in, the center page art will touch at the fold. Depends upon the art for sure.

Adobe Illustrator / Re: Illy CC 2015 stroke shift

I think i did. I remember a prompt asking if I wanted to clear prefs or import along with CC Sync settings. I started as fresh as I could.
I will study up on how to best clear preferences though, just in case i need to do it all over again.

I take that back. It only seems to happen with files previously created.
I'll do some trials and see just what circumstances are needed.

Quote from: Joe on July 09, 2015, 09:58:16 AMCan you post the file it is happening with? I just tried it by creating some lines and copying and pasting from one document to another and it didn't happen on what I had created. Also there was an update for Illy CC2015 last night/early this morning...have you installed that.
Well, that's the thing, i can create any file and it will happen, but only on my machine.
We have 5 iMacs all of the same generation all purchased at the same time, I'm the only one with the issue.
I was hoping it was a settings issue or something I guess.
I must have the latest version, as I just installed this morning.

Adobe Illustrator / Illy CC 2015 stroke shift
July 09, 2015, 09:07:23 AM
So this happened.
Copied from one file to paste into another, the art is offset, only the strokes.
If I select all strokes and assign a color(even the same color) it will snap back to the correct position.
So, why? Never had this happen before.

Did an uninstall/restart/reinstall/restart and the problem persists.

Adobe InDesign / Re: Adobe CC 2015 released

Well, now, duh.
I always thought that Time Machine was a system wide restore. It will restore single folders without changing anything else though.
I got my old version of Indy back. I'm happy, but feel pretty foolish...

Adobe InDesign / Re: Adobe CC 2015 released

Well, crap. I wish to knew pay attention to the update button thing, I just clicked the update from Creative Cloud window and went about my business, I haven't seen a don't delete button before. Never needed it, old versions just stayed. Well, any ideas on how to get the old version back? Aside from using time machine that is, I'm not sure I want to go there yet.

I did find the Page Thumbnail option in Acro, but it was a long search. I still have Acro 11 with Pitstop, so, I'm fine there.

I'm the local test dummies here. I downloaded Illy and Photoshop without too much issue, but Indy deletes all previous versions of CC.
So if I edit a file and save, my coworkers without the update are SOL. Nice new features and I will need to do some testing on old bugger files to see how that works.

I finally downloaded Acrbat Pro DC (dick choke?) and it is just freaking terrible. This is not a program that i will even try to get to know, completely turns it Playskool looking and makes it super cumbersome to switch between pages and to do a quick scroll as the pages window only opens by itself and not along side the document! I really cannot tell you how disappointed I am with this release.. The only thing they got right was that (at least in my case) my older version of Acro 11 wasn't auto deleted.

Tread lightly with this "upgrade".

General Prepress / Re: now ya see me - now ya dont

I have had issues with permissions and folder creating. I'm absolutely clueless about the server, we got a guy. But a while ago we updated the servers and any folder that i created on my machine then dragged and dropped onto the server, all kinds of weirdness, like folks not being able to see the folder or the files inside or the updates to the same file. If I created the folder within the server originally, no issue.

oh, yeah, we had troubles naming a folder then it going back to original name.

Anyway, not sure if this was of any help.
