We have always been a traditional offset shop here, lots of 12-24 pt SBS and die cutting. Starting to look at the big toner machines as there is a local need here and we have been growing a decent side business with it.

Put in a Sharp office copier and we have it up to 20K per month both B&W and 20K per month color.

Looking at the Cannon, and waiting on a proposal from both Sharp and Xerox.

Main thing will be programs, short run 8.5 x 11 newsletters,Presentations, Instruction sheets, NCR

We do a lot of retail display work so maybe some price cards.

So anybody have experience with this guy?

Any particular one I should be looking at?

We are about 16 miles out side of NYC in NJ so service coverage has never been an issue but curious as to the level of service from Cannon.

Hey All,

Wondering if anyone knows of a program you can use to creat 3d print seperations.  The old kind with the blue and red glasses.

About ten years ago we printed some stuff for Time Inc but they supplied the files (looked like an out of register prog print)

General Prepress / Sequential Numbering
October 23, 2015, 08:07:55 AM
Might have already been posted...but great site for generating a list of sequential numbers for use in data merge...i.e ticket numbering.  Saved me a whole lot of time.

General Prepress / Rip Advice
October 02, 2015, 07:36:56 AM
So...our Artworks 8.5 is really starting to show it's age and the windows box that my Apogee Print Drive sits on is getting as old as my high schooler so it's time to look for an upgrade.

Feeling Artworks, Apogee, and Prinergey are overkill...and over $$$ for our needs.  We are a single shift shop, (read me and my brothers) rip about 5-6 jobs per day all going on a 5 color Komori.

We do mostly display work that goes in-store (Walgreens, CVS, Home Depot), so transparencies have become quite a challenge as of late.  Some great...some not so great.

Wondering what choices are out there.  Heard about Xitron, but fairly unfamiliar....had Artworks in and liked the stuff but seems very overkill for what we do. Looking to see what is around in a sub $20K complete system.

Our imposition software is Dyna strip which would probably need to be replaced as well.  Proofing was just upgraded last year to EFI   XF

CMS - Proofing - Printers / Proofer Profile
May 23, 2014, 12:14:30 PM
Installed a new Proofer a few months ago and trying to fine tune the color.  My old way of proofing was to profile it to our press...i.e run a set of swatches on press, read em in, create a profile, optimize to profile.

Installer talked to me about running to a standard i.e SWOP or Gracol so trying to see what the opinions are on either side.

CMS - Proofing - Printers / 12-16 Point Epson Media
March 05, 2014, 11:40:34 AM
Hey All,

Just installed a new Epson 9900 with the efi rip and it didn't take long for one of our display customers to ask "what's the heaviest weight you can run."

The proofer will run up to 18 point and Epson sells Carolina c1s sheets $20  :death: per sheet 17 x 24.

Question is anybody familiar with any third party aqueous papers in the 12-16 point range on rolls?

Thanks,

-Santa

Came in this morning to the processor front end plate conveyor drive continuously running.  Manual said it was the rear plate detector (S2) switch. Swapped it out with the (S1) switch. Didn't make a difference. Anybody ever deal with this?  I can post pictures of the circuit board. All relays seem lit.

Just started getting this error code on our Acento (Screen Platerite Error E018A Door won't open).  And you guessed it door won't open.  It seems like a sensor or actuator might be out.

We can manually open the door (screwdriver into hole manually unlocks) but was wondering if anyone has any experience with this error and replacing sensors.

So it looks like our 9600 is on its way out.  Magenta pump not supplying ink on a consistent basis.  We are running Dupont Cromapro which is a dead product so no new print drivers, and it's not in the budget for a new proofing solution i.e proofer, rip, box, set up, training.

So off to Ebay/Craigslist we go and was wondering anyone ever swap out the printer and is there any re-configuring that needs to go on between Cromapro and the printer? Could I be so lucky as it would just plug and print  :lmao:

Pressroom / Removing UV Coating
August 25, 2011, 09:57:57 AM
Hi All,

Have a question about a job we ran at another printer.  It was offset on a 20 mil polyester and a UV coating.  Long and short the UV coating was not cut back from a glue spot on the polyester (We have to apply an adhesive to form a shape).  So the million dollar question anyone know a solvent that will remove UV coating from a polyester sheet?

Macintosh / Lion and older Pre-press software
July 03, 2011, 07:07:31 PM

Sounds promising.  I have a copy of parallels that I'm going to try and run a vm of tiger on in a Lion upgraded iMac.   Dynastrip 4 and nexus manager 8.5 can hopefully reside nicely in there.

General Prepress / Show Your Favorite Plate Jam
April 06, 2010, 07:12:45 AM

Hey All,

Any one have any idea where I can buy a wire harness part for my Platerite. Picture is attached.  Part Number is X61H.  Is this something I can buy from Screen?  It went two years ago and cost us $$$$$ of service to diagnose for an easy part to replace. So wondering if anyone knows of a part supplier.

Thanks

Hi All,

asked this before and someone gave me the answer but can't for the life of me figure out where I wrote it down.

Our Acento/Platerite 4100 threw a plate and all three tail clamps this morning (yeah for me!) I've replaced the clamps before, but just can't find the passcode for the service menu.  I thought it was 4100 the model # but that is not working.  Any one out there with an idea?

May 11, 2009, 07:25:22 AM
So lost some PPD's on a computer upgrade and can't for the life of me find how to make a PPD on version 8.6.  It used to be right there in Nexus Manager but I can't find it.

Any help?

Artwork Systems / Insight License Issue Help Joe?
January 16, 2009, 10:12:54 AM
Recently had to replace the hard drive on my Intel Mac and after using time machine to re-install everything runs fine except for Nexus Insight.
When I go to Insight to import the License it has my dongle number but is in red and there is no license file I know of to import.
Just been running with out Insight for the past few months but it does come in handy.
Anybody have an idea on where the license file I need to import sits?
