I did it a couple times a long time back
I remember putting the data thru the mailer program first tho.

Like anything, your mail sorting software should generate the barcode data. From there, it's just a matter of adding the leading and trailing characters (unless your sorting program does that, too), or setting up FP to add those characters.

Don't have mail-sorting software? No need for a barcode, then. Completely useless unless the mail is sorted.

If the mail is sordid, however, just send it to me & Gtown.

David

did get a nugget from someone on the dark side.
apparently it's a 1D code that when scanned has a redirect feature.

From a company in Japan, of course
here's a link if anyone wants to check it out:

So ... you have to use a specific barcode scanning app?

David

apparently, but I have trouble "decoding" some of the info on that site, being as it's in broken engrish.

I know QuickMark has its own QR Scanning app, among the several others out there. I'm not sure that 1D code is meant for Consumer use however. I see references to using an "external macro lens" to properly scan them. There are codes out there intended for packaging & manufacture that people seem to think they can use for Consumers, but it's not intended. Tell the sales guy to stick with QR, there are ways to do everything that page describes with QR, and the readers are much more easy to get for Free.

Now, I know QuickMark sells the software to produce all the codes too and I think it's very good if you're doing large quantities of them. It looks like that page you linked to allows for encoding in 2D or 1D. Interesting.
A little diddie 'bout black 'n cyan...two reflective colors doin' the best they can.

David

I think they actually sell the "external macro lens" as well. It's like an adapter that fits on your phone over the lens, and depending on the model of phone, it has different mounts.

Note: It was during a demonstration of QR codes. That's the only time.

I don't have a smart phone, so no hand raised here.
My phone makes phone calls, novel idea.
oh, and I get text messages, too. I am in the nineties, for sure.  bleeding edge, if you know what I mean.
