General Prepress / epson pro 7880 error
February 18, 2015, 07:46:53 AM
hi all!! – can you help a brother out?
I received an error code on our Epson Pro 7880 that is 0040 – I know what the code is its "Cleaning unit near end of life"
I have read that I can reset the counter (we used to do this with our 7600 maintenance tanks)
Bottom line is I can get to the super secret service menu by pressing pause, down, right when powering up and view the counters but there is no option to "clear" the counter

Enfocus / Step and Repeat function
September 24, 2014, 07:25:52 AM
Hi all!
Does anyone know if it's possible to do a step and repeat with an action list? I need to show pin feeds on our pdf proofs. I created an ellipse in the color and position I need for the first one but need to step and repeat (about 30 times) in .5" increments.

RAMpage / output tiffs with color names
February 05, 2014, 04:55:07 AM
Hello all!
We are getting trained for using Rampage (v13) it is ALL new to me, head spins! lol
I have noticed that tif files output to our ctp are named WITHOUT the pms  color (ie job no 123456_2.tiff) we really need to have it named WITH the pms as a part of the name (ie job no 123456_PANTONE185.tiff) sometimes they have to make plates on another shift and they need to know which color they are making. Surely, we can't be the only shop needing this and the person doing the training has called rampage and they said it can't be done. What am I missing?

General Prepress / Help - DeviceN Problems
December 27, 2013, 12:46:13 PM
Hi all,
I had someone send me a pdf that had some elements (logos, pics, etc..) in DeviceN. What I usually do with most supplied pdfs is place in Indesign so I can add FPO stuff lineholes, perfs, etc and export another pdf for approval and plates. Well, SOME of the DeviceN elements got deleted when making the final pdf! No warnings or anything! What gives?

CTP - CTF / thermal machine costs
November 21, 2013, 08:42:45 AM
Hi all, hope all is well!
Just a general question for all of the peeps that have thermal ctp... What are the most common things that fail on these devices and what is the usual cost of repairs?
A little background... We have been using conventional plates (Fuji FNX, FNS) and a basysprint that burns using a UV lamp. About every six months we have to replace the lamp which is somewhat expensive and time consuming to do, not a huge big deal really. But, now, we are needing to repair / replace certain things that is adding up to big $$$ ($21k +) and come to find out we will have to pay this big $$$ out every three years! Eventually we are going to go thermal (I wish we would have done it before but that decision was made by someone else who is no longer with the company) I have heard that the most common things that go bad would be the lasers, and they are easy and relatively cheap to replace. This, of course, was from a salesperson. The machine I am thinking of specifically would be a dart or javelin.

General Prepress / PDF Footers
January 20, 2012, 10:48:59 AM
We have a customer that wants a footer put on all of their proofs. Is there a way to extract the certain info from the pdf itself (ie. ink colors, size of crop box) using some kind of variable? I have Acrobat 9, PitstopPro 10 on a mac. I usually do 20 to 30 of these proofs and honestly, I'm getting a little tired of manually typing most of the information in, especially since most of this info is already a part of the file. We name the pdfs by PO#/Job#/Form#
The footer should look like this: "PO ###### - Job ##### - Form ###### • Qty 25,000 • 75# RCSTOCK • 13.5" x 7.333" • Perf @ 3.667" • 2/2 - Black, PMS 286 / Black, PMS 286

Suggestions?

General Prepress / adobe livecycle form
August 31, 2011, 09:49:35 AM
Hi all,
hoping someone can help me out here. I have received a bunch of pdfs created from livecycle with form fields - rgb - low res images etc. I have tried to fix things with acrobat, pitstop, crackerjack and even tried to export to ps and refry, but no luck. There is no security but it looks like it has usage rights for reader. I have absolutely no idea about livecycle's export/save-as features so I can't help the people who are creating the pdfs. Any idea's or hints on what I can say to the "designer" (besides "don't use interactive design programs for offset". lol)

General Prepress / ink software
September 30, 2009, 11:20:54 AM
hi all,
I was wondering if there is a simple way to calculate coverage for an order. What we want to do is either use a pdf and tell us how much coverage there is on a certain color, or take the color separated tifs to find out how many pixels are "on". This seems to be something that could be an acrobat pluggin. Any ideas?

Okay, so I don't want to start a environmental debate here but are we getting a little crazy here?

http://www.ecofont.eu/look_at_ecofont_en.html

I mean could you screen type at 80% - 85% and get the same "ink savings"?
