Nexus 8.5 revision #3 was just released.

Anyone know if recycled paper is available for large format printing.  Mainly for HP 5500 machines.

here is one  type in emacs and hit enter then hit the escape key then hit the x key then type in doctor then hit enter.   you have a doctor built into your mac that will make you feel better when you have a hectic day in prepress.  Type in "my mac is running slow"  then hit enter twice see what happens. 

We are using a Nexus TotalRip here in our shop for all our premedia jobs.  We are getting ready to get all our Preps guys using the same rip.  Right now we have EPS links placed in the Imposition and we let OPI swap them out when we print.  I was wondering how other shops were doing it.  The way I want to do it is just place the HiRes PDF files in there and work with that.  I think with todays technology we will be able to handle the HiRes files with no problem.  What's the consensus HiRes or Links???????   

HEEEEEELLLLLLPPPP!!!!!   we are having problem getting rid of data in a PDF.  This  comes from inserting an ill file with multiple items into indy and exporting a PDF.  Is there a way to get rid of all that extra lineart that is not printing.    The first picture below is what we see in outline mode and the second one is what we see in preview mode.  What should print is what we see in the preview mode.  We want to get rid of all that art that is in there but does not print.   So far the PDF optimizer in acrobat 7 doesn't work.  I don't know of any export setting in indy that will help me so i'm stuck.  Anyone know of any pitstop profile or actionlist that will do this for me or some other kind of workaround. 

does anyone know how to speed up the printing on an HP with a spinjet attached to it????   right now we are sending RTL files to spinflow using Nexus at 300 dpi.  We want to start sending it at 600 dpi but it takes too long to print.  If we drive the HP direct from Nexus and skip spinflow altogether it prints at 600 at a good speed but once we go through spinflow 600 dpi kills us.  is there any other software that drives the spinjet?  or is there another way of speeding it up???   we are going to install more memory on the HP to speed it up but I don't think its the final sollution to that problem. 

this is probably too off topic but since we are not on PP I thought it would be ok.  I just made the switch from PC to MAC and bought an iMac.  I am not happy with the reading and writing of the DVD drive.  On my PC I would be able to process 8.5 gigs of info in about 20 minutes.  On my new iMac it is about 50% slower.  I was wondering if you would recomend upgrading the internal drive or buying an external drive.  I was interested in having an external drive powered by firewire.  I'm not sure of the read and write spead of the firewire drive though.  That's why I wanted to know if it was better to replace the internal one.

I didn't go to graph expo this year and I was hoping to get some more news about the merger.  Anyone get anything new from graph expo???

Anyone know how to install OSX on an external hard drive????  And actually boot off that hard drive???   I am trying to install osx on an external hard drive so i can install windows on that same external hard drive.  I know I might be asking for a lot but there are a few things that I need to run off windows and I don't want to partition my internal hard drive for windows.
