CMS - Proofing - Printers / spinjet
September 25, 2007, 05:05:17 PM
does anyone know how to speed up the printing on an HP with a spinjet attached to it????   right now we are sending RTL files to spinflow using Nexus at 300 dpi.  We want to start sending it at 600 dpi but it takes too long to print.  If we drive the HP direct from Nexus and skip spinflow altogether it prints at 600 at a good speed but once we go through spinflow 600 dpi kills us.  is there any other software that drives the spinjet?  or is there another way of speeding it up???   we are going to install more memory on the HP to speed it up but I don't think its the final sollution to that problem.

yeah I think I am going to buy an external hard drive and hook it up using firewire so I won't have to plug it in to the wall(too many wires).  I also don't want to open up my brand new iMac and mess with the internal components.   Isnt the speed on DL DVD burners up to 20X now??

The DVD is Video DVD.  I used DVD+R for both PC and MAC.  I have tried it on toast and mac the ripper and popcorn and iDVD.  30-35 minutes of processing time is not acceptable.  It should be more like 15-20 minutes, like my PC was.  The  iMac has way better processors than my PC did so I'm sure it's not that.  So I suspect it's the DVD drive that is not fast enough.  I believe it's reading at 8X and I am looking to double that so I wanted to see if it was better to upgrade internally or externally.  But i'm not sure what that will do to my applecare warranty or the system itself.

Macintosh / Intel Mac DVD Drive

this is probably too off topic but since we are not on PP I thought it would be ok.  I just made the switch from PC to MAC and bought an iMac.  I am not happy with the reading and writing of the DVD drive.  On my PC I would be able to process 8.5 gigs of info in about 20 minutes.  On my new iMac it is about 50% slower.  I was wondering if you would recomend upgrading the internal drive or buying an external drive.  I was interested in having an external drive powered by firewire.  I'm not sure of the read and write spead of the firewire drive though.  That's why I wanted to know if it was better to replace the internal one.

Artwork Systems / Re: OptiRange Settings
September 20, 2007, 09:06:24 AM
Well we have been having an enormous amount of problems as well with 8.5.  One thing I did notice is that when I set all my preferences in the expose epson module and I closed it and opened it again all my settings were gone.  The problem was that everytime that you would open the module it defaults back to the original settings.  What I did is that I set all my preferences and noted down on a piece of paper what I changed.  From there I closed that window and right clicked on the expose epson module and chose "save parameters to xml".  I saved the xml file on the desktop and dragged that into my Nexus Manager icon.  Nexml editor should pop up with all the different preferences in that module.  Double check that your settings you chose are in there.  If they are then you should be able to set your optirange settings the way you want as long as you don't open the module back up.  So it's basically just set it and don't open it back up or you have to set it again.   If your settings are not in the xml files then you know your module is not accepting those settings and you should email support and let them get on it.   I believe rev 3 should be out any day now as well so you may want to wait for that.  Let me know how it works out.

Macintosh / Re: Boot Camp
September 14, 2007, 01:02:20 PM
I just installed Boot Camp without a problem.  It was actually really easy.  All I need now is a key for XP.  I put Norton Internet Security 2007 on it.  The only problem I had was when I installed Windows XP and booted into it I could not get XP to see both of my external hard drives.  I had to erase them and reformat both of them in Disk Utility.  I used the MS_DOS format so both OSX and XP would be able to read and write to the hard drives.  I lost a few video files but it was no big deal.  I haven't tried Vista and don't want to either yet at least not for another 6 months.

Yeah esko bought AWS for about 200 million.  This happened maybe 4 weeks ago.  I'm not sure about Enfocus though.  I think they were just a close partner with AWS and they are going along for the ride.  But I'm probably wrong.

Kodak Preps / Re: Preps upgrade
September 12, 2007, 08:52:49 AM
Anyone using Preps Ganging?  I tried to use it here but it requires 10.4.6 or above and we are running 10.3.X  so we can't use it.  Any feedback on preps ganging would be appreciated.  My boss asked me to look into it.

Macintosh / OSX on an external Hard Drive
September 09, 2007, 01:56:51 PM
Anyone know how to install OSX on an external hard drive????  And actually boot off that hard drive???   I am trying to install osx on an external hard drive so i can install windows on that same external hard drive.  I know I might be asking for a lot but there are a few things that I need to run off windows and I don't want to partition my internal hard drive for windows.
