CMS - Proofing - Printers / Re: Spinjet Questions
July 08, 2008, 09:56:51 AM
We have a newer spinjet attached to a HP 1050 and we find that if you handle the HP and the Spinjet with care it will hardly ever give you problems.  I have called our service tech 1 time for the spinjet and all he did was put a piece of tape on the HP so the paper would glide smoothly and not get caught on any edges.  That's the only problem we have had.   I would give it a 5 out of 5.

We actually have xinet and artpro as well but we haven't seen any problems with it.  Maybe you can send me a couple of your files see if i can duplicate it over here and maybe I can help you out.

CMS - Proofing - Printers / Newspaper proofing
May 17, 2008, 12:43:10 AM
Hello All,

I was wondering what other people are doing out there as far as newspaper proofing is concerned.  We use a HP 1055 with Serendipity BlackMagic as our rip.  We print on the end rolls of newspaper stock.  So far it's not working out too well.  We see breaks in the highlights whenever we use the HP so we tried the Epson 9880 but it doesn't produce the rich blacks that we want. Any Suggestions?

Well too bad they don't want to give you the application files.  then you would be able to export it a bunch of different ways to see if the export settings were the issues.

What rip did you run it through?  did you apply any device links to the file when it was ripped.?  Maybe it was something in the device link that is set to preserve black only and since it saw a value for CMY it threw some other colors in there.  Probably not it but it seemed like a possibility.  i'm not an expert but here a nice little tip that worked for me when changing k.o to 0.  i noticed you have the overprint button checked on so all you would do is check it off and check it back on and the k.o. changes to 0.  Well hopefully you figure this stuff out.

General Prepress / Re: epson stylus pro 9600

yes it most definitely does need to be calibrated.  you have to know what rip software you have.  Different rips have different methods of calibrating.  Find out what rip you have and maybe someone here is familiar with calibrating an Epson with your rip.

You have more than one Nexus server?  And you say that it's not doing it on the other Nexus servers?  Then try this.  Shut down the rip that is giving you problems. Go into that rip folder  "Nexus 8.x" then look for a file called "User Colours".  Delete this file.  Go into the the rip folder of one of your other Nexus servers then look for that same file and copy it to the rip folder of the server that was giving you problems.  now startup the rip and see if it still give you problems with the colors.  Let me know if this helps.

Kodak Preps / Preps 5.3.1
March 24, 2008, 10:44:27 AM
Hello,

We've been having problems with Preps Marks and Templates disappearing or rather becoming invisible to Preps.  Let me elaborate....  we were running smooth for a few years on Preps 3 then we upgraded to 5 and we were still good for a few more months then all of a sudden when we would search for a template (command+L) the templates would not appear in the list.  If we would navigate through the finder where the templates were located we would see the "missing" templates.  What we did to fix this is move the Templates and Marks folder to a different location.  This fixed the problem for about a month then it happened again.  Anyone else run into this problem?

Quote from: Joe  on February 06, 2008, 12:57:55 PMI think there is a setting somewhere that you can set it to delete jobs when they are purged. Not at work right now but I will look later. I could be imagining things though. Sometimes I get my wish list confused with reality. :balloon:

It's a constant battle for me too to get users to delete their jobs. Like it would kill them to go back to Preps and reprint it if they need it in the workflow again. I think I will cast a spell upon them! :witchdoctor:

There is a setting where you can set the jobs to delete on purge.  If you open up a workflow and right click on it and go to properties there is an option called "delete on purge".  You can set this up for each individual workflow.    As far as the freezing goes i recommend  upgrading your server.  We are now running a dual quad core with 12 gb of RAM and it seems that we are handling things really well.

CMS - Proofing - Printers / Z6100 vs 11880
January 30, 2008, 05:37:20 PM
We are going to buy a new wide format inkjet soon and we need to make the decision between an HPZ6100 or an Epson 11880.  Anyone have any experience with both printers?  I have heard that the HP has some bronzing problems and has problems printing on glossy media.  Anyone have any recommendations as to which printer we should purchase?  Pros Cons?

Macintosh / Re: Air Mac!
January 15, 2008, 07:37:38 PM
i agree with you guys, It's not a must have and not a huge leap into the future.  I would only get one if i wanted to show off to all my work buddies. I am however interested to hear how the SSD performs.  Interesting how this announcement didn't do much for Apple Stock (down ten points).

I also wonder how long it will be before apple introduces "WiTricity" into their laptops. Probably the second or third generation of the macbook air.

I suggest you contact support and ask them to put this on the wish list.  Maybe in the future we can set our own appearance for the Nexus Manager.
