Fujifilm XMF / Re: XMF and macOS Mojave

Quote from: Slappy on September 26, 2018, 06:57:06 PMDear god no!! I actually hadn't gotten around to the High Sierra update, so unless there's a sneaky way to get it from the App Store I don't suppose it's happening.

You should be able to download High Sierra here.

Adobe Acrobat / Re: Acrobat excessive RAM usage

Quote from: Joe on October 04, 2017, 12:29:56 PMWhat version of Mac OS are you using? I am not seeing this with Acrobat DC on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6.
The problem occurs in Yosemite, Sierra and High Sierra.

And El Capitan too.
Was fine until about 1 1/2 weeks ago, then DC started grabbing up ram & VM. No updates to OS, Acro or the only third party plugin, FusionPro. There's also a second thread on Adobe's bug report pages. https://acrobat.uservoice.com/forums/590923-acrobat-for-windows-and-mac/suggestions/32123662-acrobat-pro-dc-acrocef-eating-up-21gb-of-memory

Only workable solution I've found, as others on this forum, quit Agrobat when not using it and don't leave it launched for over 1/2 hour (monitoring memory use through Activity Monitor).

Fujifilm XMF / Re: XMF Colorpath user guide
October 28, 2015, 08:50:21 AM
It took me a while to wrap my brain around Colorpath but once you do it fairly clear. The "flow" of creating and applying characterization curves is this:
To get from XMF to Colorpath click the color wheel icon on the top bar. This will launch a browser and load the Colorpath interface. You'll need Microsoft Silverlight extension and suggest Firefox.

Select the Characterization tab and create your curve(s) then apply it to the screen sets you want to use it with.
Once that's done go back to the media tab, select the press device you want to apply the curve to, click on either the edit or new button (bottom right). In the window that opens create a new media by selecting the new button at the bottom of the Media Types inset window. Once the media is created check the box next to it to select it. Then below in the Characterization Curves inset window select which curve set(s) you want to apply the curve to. Select the curve from the pop up menu below the list of screen sets and click the Set button.

Then back in the XMF client make sure you change your press device to the new Media Profile in your Job Templates and re-render any existing jobs you want to use that curve on.

I hope this helps, sorry can't grab screen shots atm.

Fujifilm XMF / Re: Converting Spots to XMF...
October 22, 2015, 02:21:32 PM
Quote from: biggsie7 on September 09, 2013, 03:36:38 PMIn the admin area of XMF under Ink Management there is a default System Ink Pool. The base colours are official PANTONE library colours as part of the Adobe APPE with default CMYK references as per the pantone system. This library is selected at installation time.

If you hadn't have made this post biggise I would have never known XMF had libraries available to it as tech support originally told me there weren't any and none could be imported. Now floating with the bridge library in Ink management. TY much!

Digital Printing / Indigo Spot color LUT
October 16, 2015, 08:11:08 AM
I'm wondering if someone can enlighten me as to how Indigo presses convert spot colors to CMYK, whether it uses a LUT or bases it on values within a file. We've got an Indigo 3500, not sure exactly what rip version we're using (5.3??).

Fujifilm XMF / Re: Plate Sluglines

Glad I could help. You can also rename your workflow sets to match your sections simply by clicking on the workflow set name and typing. Really helps us keep ours organized.

If I understand you right you want to run multiple forms in one XMF job and get different slug and/or management lines on the plates.
(Ex. Job #xxxxxx, Letterhead, #10, BC)
Here's how I do it. Create the job in XMF and bring in all associated files. Create a section for each different piece in the job and apply the needed files to each section. For each section you will most likely then need a separate workflow set to differentiate each form's imposition (and it helps keep things clear when plating). Then the only way I've been able to get different callouts on the plates is to include the "section" selection in either slug or management, or both. If you name your sections right (i.e. LH, #10, BC) you will get that in the tagline.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the input Diddler. Blackmagic sure looks interesting and more user friendly than EFI or even Oris offerings.

Fujifilm XMF / Colorpath verify
September 15, 2015, 08:55:56 AM
I'm wondering if anyone is using this service from Fuji and what your experience has been like.

Currently our shop is shooting pdfs from XMF to Oris Color Tuner V5.3 for proofing on an Epson 7800. Printer is getting tired and Oris chokes on Pantone+ libraries, not to mention it's archaic. Time to upgrade imo.

Adobe InDesign / Re: alternative to Indesign Data Merge
September 08, 2015, 09:26:08 AM
I've been using FusionPro for over 5 years now and strongly recommend you looking into it. It works within Acrobat but also has plugins for Indesign and Quark. I regularly work mail merges and variable letters for our indigo press and docutechs without a problem. I've also used it to merge large bus. card orders with not only varying text but also art & images. It is a bit of a learning curve but there's extensive information and support on Marcom's site http://marcom.com/fusionpro/.

It also exports to .jlt files for our indigo (needed as it's rip chokes on pdfs with a lot of pages), so it allows me to get away from HP's software which I find just too tunnel visioned toward their presses. Of course I haven't dealt with HP software for 6 years or more so they might have changed their attitude.

Fujifilm XMF / Re: Co-Res & Taffeta Screening
August 21, 2015, 08:55:11 AM
We've been using Co-Res for over 4 years now. Other than pressmen's problems of loosing standard screen angles built into AM screening there hasn't been any problems. With the adaptive features built into the Co-Res technology moires and stepped gradients are a non-issue. I personally love it.

Quote from: wagsgraphx on March 26, 2014, 04:11:20 PMSince Fuji will no longer be supporting Rampage my employer is looking at switching over to the XMF system.
Anybody running on the XMF system that used to be on Rampage?
Any pros or cons?
Your feed back is appreciated.

I would like to re-poke this thread to see if any additional info is lurking out there....?
1. If you converted from Rampage to XMF, how are you dealing with exact reruns of existing RSI data? Is there a input/conversion in XMF or are you using your legacy Rampage for this....or are you just 'redoing' the job in XMf?
also,
2. If you run digital presses as well as offset, are you using XMF for both operations?
3. Is there anything like the 'proof compare' feature from Rampage in XMF?
4. Thumbs Up ,Down, or Sideways for efficiency compared to Rampage?
5. Are you happy LeBron is going back to the Cavs?

We are about a year into our conversion from Rampage 10.4 to XMF and it's pretty much settled in.
Answers to your questions:
1. I matched as closely as possible press curves to what we had existing in Rampage. Once that was done we rework either from natives or exports that were ripped (pdf or distill the eps) in Rampage. So far no major color or trap differences.
2. We have one indigo press. After setting up a workflow set in XMF to emulate as closely as possible our EPS>Preps>.ps>pdf workflow we had been using it's working very nicely. Biggest problem has been RGB conversion and the indigo rip's LUT.
3. I never worked above Rampage V10 so didn't experience proof compare. From what I know about it, no, there is nothing like it in XMF. However you can (we do) export imposed pdfs to keep with our native files, you could compare previous vs. current.
4. Thumbs up! Although we have an older Rampage version and hardware so not great comparison. It took nearly 40 min. to rip, impose, rip and start to proof a 16pgr on our 28 inch press. XMF, once I'm ready to go into rip, 10 minutes if I take a bathroom break. ;)
5. LeBron... no comment. I'm from Seattle, it's almost Seahawks season. lol

What I do appreciate about XMF is also the support. They brought on many Rampage techs and they have been instrumental in helping me wrap my brain around the software.
