Kodak Systems / Explain something to me
September 11, 2015, 10:38:04 AM
I have Prinergy installed here (of course with Preps and Colorflow).
I have never had any formal training (from Kodak) on the ins and outs of the software. We were trained by "a very knowledgeable person" who has used it for several years (albeit an older version in a shop that is older than dirt as well).

I have been asked and I have asked around here (at work) and I have yet to get an answer that makes sense.

Why do you have to do 2 refines on a page? With Esko, you normalize once and you're good to go.
What is the difference between the 1st refine and the 2nd refine?
Do you have to do both?
If you don't why do they put it in there?

thanks in advance for any helpful nuggets.

Kodak Systems / Preps 6 - build a half web
January 06, 2015, 12:43:08 PM
I need some Preps help.
We have a job that will be running on our web press.
It has a full 16pp web pressform plus an 8pp half web (running to the gear side, so it's off center by half the web). The half web form is of course taller (around the cylinder) than it is wide.
When we try this, it either wants to rotate the half web so it is long across the sheet or it will split it so I have 4 pages on either side of the plate.

any ideas?

Macintosh / Shellshock Security Threat
October 02, 2014, 10:32:08 AM
it's time for an update...

QuoteLate Friday, Apple reassured Mac OS X users that most were protected by default, but nonetheless that it was working on a patch. The vulnerability in Bash, which stands for Bourne Again Shell, also affects Linux and UNIX systems. - See more at: http://threatpost.com/apple-patches-shellshock-vulnerability-in-bash-for-os-x#sthash.UPXUEAQu.dpuf

Enfocus / change destination output profile

I am looking for an action/global change (whichever) to change the Destination output profile.
I am attaching screen caps of what it is and what I want to change it to.
I need to go from a US Web Coated SWOP v2 to a SWOP 2006 Coated 3 v2 profile and keep the CGATS TR 001 identifier
I am having no luck making the action.

Digital Printing / Specs for digital printers
October 25, 2013, 09:52:26 AM
guys, I need to know what is the fuser temp on a Xerox 700 and a Ricoh Pro C901S.
We on occasion run printed sheets through the Xerox and the fuser will get so hot it will melt the ink on the sheet.
I have been asked to find out about the Ricoh, which I have on the floor, but it's not plugged in currently.
We have a job that needs to run through one or the other, it has a raised uv coat on it and we're curious as to what damage will occur when we try to run several thousand sheets through them.

TIA!

Any of you guys know where/how to find out how many hours you have on the lasers in a Lotem 800 Quantum?

TIA!

got a question, can you change the output res of the 700 (got a Fiery Rip)?

I know it can print "up to 2400" dpi, but do you have a choice and can you change it?

TIA,
David

Random Technology / Server based video streaming
May 30, 2013, 12:50:50 PM

Have any of you thought about or actually doing this?
I was asked to check on the cost, viability, ease of doing etc, -  How to be able to offer to a business a video stream as a service.

I have checked with the almighty goog...
streaming video servers versus http streaming video, hosting versus embedding youtube link type stuff...

I got some good info, just wanted to know if anyone is actually doing this, how does it work in real world environment, was it worth it?

any ideas?
am I nuts?
are you still reading this?

thanks!!!

Kodak Systems / Prinergy Color Management
March 27, 2013, 09:40:49 AM
I need some information about how, and what does Prinergy do for Color Management.
We currently do .icc to .icc profiling for our proofs and plates using Esko.

What does Prinergy call this and what app, RBA or whatever do we need to accomplish this?
Can this RBA be shared? Can it be exported so other Prinergy users can use the same RBA?

I have a 2pm cst call and I need to be able to ask intelligent questions (ie. not a pitch from a sales guy, actual users please).

Let me know if you need more clarification.

thanks,
Dave

Any youse guys ever seen this?
I can print if I turn off Certification or remove the Spectro, but not when it is on and goes through a queue.

Windows / Cloning a C drive on a Win 2003 Server
August 23, 2012, 01:29:04 PM
any of you guys know of a good server clone software that is compatible with Server 2003?

My C drive (80GB) is running out of space and I have a 1TB drive ready to go, all I need is the clone software to do the deed.

any ideas?

most freeware does not run on a server, and if you buy one, you will pay extra if it's a server.

Technical / Web Site Redirect
January 11, 2012, 11:51:04 AM
here goes, I can't find a definitive answer anywhere, so you guys get it.
yeah I know, you're like a step child...  maybe with red hair, possibly left handed

If I want to redirect a web site I've done (for instance: using the url "www.mynewsite.com" to go to the real url: "http://www.asdasdasdasdasd/aaasdasdaa/fghgfghfg/login.aspx")
Do I:
1. Just make up a new url, or
2. Purchase a domain name and just not use a host since it will only be used for a redirect to an existing web site?

newbie here looking for an easy way
TIA,
David

Design Applications / Web site maintainance
October 06, 2011, 08:24:17 AM
Are any of you charging for maintenance on the web sites or storefronts you either develop or are responsible for?
Do you charge a monthly/yearly fee?
If so, would you mind telling me how much? (you can PM me if you don't want to disclose this over the internet.)

How do you price out quotes for building web sites or storefronts?
by page, coding hours, etc?

inquiring minds want to know,
thanks in advance,
David

General Prepress / Compaq AIT 35 LVD Tape Drive
October 05, 2011, 08:33:49 AM
Got one of these external drives that has a tape lodged in it and will not eject. It also has now become invisible to the OS 9 Mac it is connected to with the Ultra SCSI cable.

Recently moved to my department from another building, simply un-plugged and then re-plugged in.

Tried SCSI probe 5.2 to see if it will "see" it... no go...

Retrospect 4.3 (OS 9.2) and Retrospect 6 (OS 10.4) refuse to see it as well in their list of devices.

The Mac (Power PC G4, 466 mhz, 256 mb Ram) in question is running Retrospect 4.3 (old as dirt). This particular version is so old that my newer Retrospect 6 (not quite old as dirt) does not recognize the Backup sets.

Any suggestions on how to remove the tape?
Any suggestions on how to get the newer Retro to see the older backup sets?

thanks in advance,
