Adobe Acrobat / Re: Recombining separated PDF's
August 11, 2023, 06:50:05 AM
Quote from: Joe on August 10, 2023, 01:09:33 PMI made a separated .ps file from ID last night to try it but it would not distill.
Well Joe. Thanks for making me try Distiller again and kill 30 minutes getting it to talk with Adobe again so I can run it. ;)

I found one minor thing that you might not have. We are running Kodak Prinergy and have for years so we have the Prinergy Rifiner.ppd when we select PostScript© File. Maybe that is the difference.

I have included my test InDesign and PS file in the Archive.zip. Incase you want to look at it. Also the PDF that I made.

And I threw in the Prinergy Refinder.ppd too, for testing. Which goes in the application folder for InDesign/Presets/PPDs. The PPDs folder you may need to create if it is not there. And this file should work both on Mac and PC.

Quote from: Joe on August 10, 2023, 09:36:19 AMjust curious, what program are they using to make the separated pdfs?
Curious about that too. I think you used to be able to makes seps from InDesign but you can't via export. If you have the Adobe PDF Printer on your system I think you could. But I don't have it so can't verify it.
Yes, Joe it can still be done. I/we still have a postscript printer option in InDesign just for this. As every once in a while we need to send seps out to a vendor or even more rare to a customer as they don't believe us about the spot color. And it still works great, except for the fact that you get a PS file that you have to run through Distiller to get a PDF. But at least it's doable.

CTP - CTF / Re: Magnus 800 plate scratches
February 22, 2023, 01:28:53 PM
We are not running Fuji, but Kodak. And had some issues when we first switched. We are the same with everyone knowing how to handle the plates correctly. We found that the processless plates are a little more sensitive. And we use auto loaders on the press, and those needed a good cleaning. But you may also need to have your laser power checked for your Magnus, the setting might be slightly off. Might need a fine adjustment for the plates.

CTP - CTF / Re: NITA Plate Turner to straight-thru

We had this turner too. We did not have our plates going straight through, but did find in the manual how to do it. You will need to order a second exit sensor and have it installed. And you should be good at that point. See attached screenshot of the page in the manual.

I discovered this app over the weekend that might help too. I haven't tried it out yet, but am very curious how well it actually works. Topaz Labs Gigapixel AI

Random Technology / Re: ePS Process Shipper users?
December 19, 2022, 01:42:18 PM
I know the time is short now. But also knowing that Process Shipper is a big investment, it might be a good idea to go to ePS Connect. It is Jan 23-26 in Las Vegas at the Wynn. Our VP of Finance goes every year and I went one year for DSF. It wasn't that informative for me at the time. But I know you get to talk to other user and some of the higher ups and you can see demos of all of their products. Good time to network with other users and get feedback. Just a thought.

In other countries I've seen them use a comma instead of a decimal.

Like you I'm a prepress/IT guy/everything guy. But I was not involved in the decision to purchase Process Shipper here. We've been using it for quite a while, and it does seem to be doing a good job. The guy that was managing it has left and now it kinda has fallen on me and another guy to take care of it.
From what I can tell and the feed back I get, it does a good job. It does integrate with UPS and FedEx and other shipping methods too.
There will be a learning curve of course, and it only runs on Windows, both the server and workstations.
And like most of ePS's "apps" they are web based.
The integration with Pace is quite usefully for your shipping department to not have to retype data. That is a huge bonus.
And from my limited experience actually seeing to use it, it seems to operate the same as some of the other shipping webpages out there.

Fonts / Re: Font with randomised letters

We have done something with that software before, Blackmail_Letter.pdf. It's called FusionPro Expression. And they have quite a few built templates to choose from, but making your own is no too difficult either.

And here is a link to their catalog of templates.

Adobe InDesign / Re: Pantone Book Warning

I have a feeling we might have to go back to the days when we would make a "special" color in the design software and then tell the customer to look at a pantone book to see what that color really is. And we would print it to match the pantone book. So the color proof and digital would not be an accurate representation of the pantone color.

From now on we should all reference adobe and pantone with lower case. Neither company is deserving of our respect for what they are doing to the industry right now. adobe with all the stupid updates to add show characters into their start screens and all the other bloatware in the software. And pantone not playing nice with adobe, but that could be a lot on adobe right now too.

Just saw this article this morning. Looks like we all are in for a big hurt. Pantone hikes Connect pricing. So backup your current libraries now.
