I've been lurking around here off and on for years and have read some good stuff. More importantly I found that our little prepress dept also has the same idiotic things thrown at them which has given us all a nice crust of humor as a protective shield.
Anywhooo - I can't find anything, anywhere on this subject so I thought I'd put on my big girl panties and ask my fellow shipmates. :ondeck:
My situation is this: we were recently asked to lay out several thousand individual labels 1 up each on 52"x70" sheet size, and another bunch on a 52"x90" sheet. The final result being pdfs to send back to the customer for them to print on their printer. The labels were various sizes but only one size was to be placed per sheet size. We were given one pdf but sent them thru our workflow to get individual pdfs for the layout.
The bottom line question is this: Is there a way in Dynastrip to get a template to automatically number 1 thru "whatever" if there is no binding style applied? Key word being "automatically".....just the same as reflowing a saddlestitched or perfect bound book to get the right amount of signatures and correct pagination with just the touch of a button.
Maybe I'm missing something that seems so basic but I've given up looking. OR if Dyna can't do it, does anyone have a suggestion as to how to create these layouts that are 100s up? A coworker found another way using a vdp file (don't ask me to explain it, but she said it's rather involved), but I was hoping to use our imposition software and take the burden off of her.

YIKES!!! From my very distant memory of Dynastrip I don't think there is anything in the software that would do this back in the day. Or at least there wasn't back then. Preps ganging will do it though I believe.
worst case scenario:
in indesign multipage import you can layout by telling it where you want to import it
lets say we have a 100pg pdf and we are going to layout 4-up
using multipage import you tell it to import pg 1-25 (I always tell it from the top left and tell it how much to offset, look at the options you may be able to use other options.
so we import 1-25 then 26-50 then 51-75 and 76-100 in the positions you want.
you may want to play around with a simple 100 pg so you understand it first.
If your pdf has crops and bleed you will have to remove everything but the bleed to get it layed with your own crops in indesign if needing smaller gutters
I know this sounds confusing but if you start simple you will get it, with your labels there will be more math involved but once you get it you get it!!

No gutters and crops on each individual page is what the customer wanted
I miss Preps! Due to updates/changes is how I ended up being a Dyna monkey. :monkeyfight:

Just for giggles......what imposition software do you all use or recommend? We are a small commercial printer and have one seat of Dynastrip as our imposition software for our offset press needs. Our offset press is a Komori Lithrone 28 (largest sheet size being 20x28").
We print mostly flat work, saddle-stitched books, and a few perfect bound books on the offset end of our production, besides the digital presses that we also run a wide variety of jobs on.
I use a Mac Pro with version 10.14.6
Running Prinergy/Preps here. 6 web presses and two sheet-fed + digital press aka color copier. 27" iMac running 10.14.6.
Hey Joe, why you still running 10.14? I thought we were the only ones so far behind.
Prinergy/Preps can't run on anything newer.
Joe, we are running the same. Has your shop ever thought of switching to another workflow? Just curious. We did a while back, but have been with Prinergy/Brisque for too long. Hard to make that switch with old jobs.
We actually did start the switch to XMF about 5 years ago but the XMF people couldn't figure out how to make some of our more complicated impositions for our web presses so we had to abort at the time.
Prinergy 9, Preps 9, and VPS+ will be released at the end of this month if no new issues pop up. To upgrade to it we're going to have to have Kodak upgrade our servers to Windows 19 Server as you can't run the new software on Windows 2012 Server that we are running now. Always something...

all you would have to do for future label jobs is relink the multiple page pdf

Jumping right in when it comes out, or are you holding off like some do, and wait til the dust settles before upgrading. At least that's they way we do it. I knew it was coming, just didn't realize it was so soon. Will be nice to have the server upgraded too. The only bad thing is having to listen to them trying to sell us all the new cloud services and tell us how it will make us more profitable (so we can pay another Kodak monthly fee).
Anyone on version 8.4 (I think 8.4 but I'm sure it is 8.something) and above are entitled to free cloud service from Kodak which backs up all of your jobs to the cloud as well as the nightly config backup. I signed up for this a couple of months ago and it works great after the initial backup of all of your jobs which takes a couple of days to complete. Or at least it did for me. After that initial backup it then only backups new or changed data nightly. You can contact Kodak for this. You do have to have a support contract to get this for free.
We usually wait awhile before upgrading to a new major version but I'm hoping to retire in a few months so I need to get this upgraded before I abandon ship since it will require the OS to be updated and might need some tweaking before I leave.
