I would agree ... the parts would not fit other machines.

In your "latest version" (13?) are you running the complete "Business Manager"
with the MIS for estimating and ticket writing interacting with Cockpit and SignsStation and Data Terminals?
I wouldn't mind getting in a chat about that complete workflow.
We are having major problems with SignaStation interacting and translating information coming from Business Manager.
Maybe it is just us - maybe not.
It would be great to hear of some other experiences with the full suite

Random Technology / new modem
September 26, 2014, 05:09:15 AM
I have been running an old Comcast Motorola modem for years.
Now they want to send me a new updated one.
OK
But - I see, I am renting it for $8 a month.
What would be my best choice for a modem to purchase (for home)?
Simple - 1 Mac and 1 Mackbook Pro
both connected with Airport Express units.

Thank you very much for suggestions,

Other Imposition Software / how many up
July 22, 2014, 06:40:32 PM
I remember - from the distant past - a free little piece of software that could tell you "how many up"
of each would best fit on a sheet, if you gave it the info.

I constantly need to do digital impositions where the combination press sheets may have
50 of 5 cards
350 of the next card
750 of another card
125 of 4 cards
500 of 10 cards
etc - etc - etc.

I am not looking for imposition software - mine is great
I just need to figure the best value of "ups."

Unless:
someone knows of software that can read the meta data (xmf or whatever it is)
that is tagged to a file from an online storefront (XMPie)
and can use all of the internal data, along with the PDFs, to create the imposition.

General Prepress / Re: Slide Adapter for a scanner
April 29, 2014, 09:02:04 PM
I have an Agfa HiD scanner - "glassless" for transparencies.
I could scan those puppies up, for you, at a quite high resolution - if you care.

Macintosh / windows on a mac
April 23, 2014, 05:04:27 AM
I need to run Windows 8 along with Mavericks on a new iMAC.
What is the general conscious about the best way to achieve this?
Is Parallels the way to go? Do I need BootCamp?

Any insight will be appreciated.

Adobe InDesign / Re: Corrupt fonts in CC

Try going in to your "embed fonts" area (advanced tab?)
and set your subsets to 5% rather than 100%

The Rest... / Re: IP Hell

Static is good for production machines.
For regular users on the "Domain"
you can have their machine running
 - get the IP address of it
 - and "reserve" that adddres
so the DHCP server does not 'Hand it out."

Macintosh / Mt Lion
November 19, 2013, 06:38:10 AM
Against my better judgement, I upgraded my Snow Leopard to MtLion (just to install Quark 10 - of all things)
Now my machine is basically hosed and I will buy another SSD to re-install 10.6.8.
But, until then, ... can anyone tell me how to find the "Hidden folders" in MtLion.
It seems Apple has hidden the "User > Library"

Quark Xpress / Quark and MT Lion
October 14, 2013, 01:15:02 PM
So ...

Against my better wishes I need to Install Quark 10 on my MAC.
I do have it on a Windows 7 box - so I am considering NOT to put it on the MAC
but ...I already have it paid for.
I ran the installer ... but it quits and tells me I need OS 10.8
and I am running 10.6.8.
-
Has anyone installed 10.8 for PrePress and is having a good time with it?

I have an all right machine with an SSD and 28GB of RAM
so I don't think that would be an issue.
I just don't want to be bummed later by buggy crap.
