Is there a warning tool in XMF which warns when items like custom marks get  into the trimsize of the pdf which is loaded in the job.

Tracy

your wondering about the pdf itself having custom marks in the trim?
I don't think XMF would recognize that as a problem.

If your wondering if XMF will allow you to put a custom mark
inside the trim box by mistake, I think it will let you.

Herman

I'm wondering the second one indeed... If a custom mark of XMF by mistake gets inside de trimbox area of a pdf document I want to get a warning. I don't get this warning  . How can I get this warning....

Tracy

How is the custom mark getting into the work?
That may be the way to solve the problem.
Template maybe?

We check the Placed Order section of the Sheets Tab of Imposition View before plating. It should tell you about any marks in the artwork and if you have the ability to turn them on or off there.

That's pretty cool, I didn't know you could manipulate that
looks like you can move the order too, like putting a color bar
on top of the marks. Thanks!

AaronH

You bet! I think between all of us on the forum we might cumulatively have full knowledge on XMF.

I've learned a lot that wasn't in the training here!

Herman

Thanks for replying, but I think the problem is misunderstood (can be because of my bad English)   :cheesy:
The problem is that custom marks like a colorbar get by misstake inside the trimsize of a document. When the printed sheets are being cut at the cutting marks there wille be a part of this colorbar on the finished product where it shouldn't be (see my attachement). I want to have a warning tool when custom marks on a imposition sheet get inside the trimsize of a document.

Tracy

Not sure if you can do that, You can set your Global sheet marks in a way that it won't go into the trim.
In the screen shot you can see under position that my Color bar is set to position from the trim of
the page to the trim of the color bar, The color bar is set to be 1/8" away form the trim
this can be locked and you can set your global sheet mark to automatically keep your
color bar out of the work.
If you click on the colored dots, it will tell you where you are positioning from-trim, bleed, paper etc..
center, left, rightetc..

You may have a template that the color bar is not locked into position and not set to position
away from the trim, so it will move into the work.

Are you using Global Sheet marks?

Herman

Ok. Now we are getting somewhere. I think I need to know how I can set my global sheet mark automatically keep my color bar out of the work. Where can I do this?

Tracy

Looks like the Global sheet marks live in the Stripping sheet templates
you can create it and save it there or you may have some that you can edit.
my screen shot shows global sheet marks and the drop down is the templates
those are in stripping sheet templates, Time for me to go home now
but can answer any questions, you may want to check your stripping sheet templates
in administrator (the little man at the top in the menu bar)

I've seen this happen before with colour bars. Does it look correct on the preview but the Rendered view is different?
If it does then your colour bar that is imported into XMF has large margins around it. Cut down your PDF of the colour bar to a smaller size and it should work fine. Or create an Intelligent Mark and lock it to the top of the sheet.
You can't polish a Turd, but you can roll it in glitter!

Yeah, I make Custom Marks' Media Boxes the same as  the effective Trim size. Safer.

I think you get a green 'edge' to them when placing inside the 'stripping window', but that's just for visibility in the Sig window, I think.

Sorry, but I think my problems is still misunderstood. (or I do not understand the answers :undecided: ) In my templates are custom marks defined like colour bars. Next I drop the pdf file on this impossition template. Because of the templates are dynamic (xmf looks at pdf size) its possible that the pages overlap a custom mark. In that case the custom marks get into the trimsize of the pdf. When this not has been seen in any check, the job wil be printed and when it gets cut on the cuttingmarks (trimsize) there is a part of custom mark in the finishes job where it shouldn't be. So I want to have a warning when this happens. Otherwise I must check each impossition job manually.
