Title: QUARK ON INTEL
Post by: pspdfppdfxhd on September 10, 2010, 05:10:02 AM
Sorry to be using all caps on the subject line but I haven't had to deal with Quark too much lately and it's pissing me off.

Simple question: Has anyone managed to use 6.5 or 7 on a new intel under snow leopard? They won't run on mine but I still have them running on a G5 on the network. I mean they open up but I can't save anything and get all sorts of strange warnings etc. and am told that it has to be reactivated.

We'd hate to have to update to Quark 8 and but I hate jumping around on 2 machines to use quark. One of our clients still runs Quark 4 on a Mac mini under classic mode and he pays his bills so Quark will just not go away here anytime soon.

Thanks.

I've got 6.5, 7.5 and 8.12 running on SL 10.6.4 with no problems (other than inherent Quark problems, but  no system-related ones). The machine is about a year old Quad Core Intel Xeon.

Have you tried reactivating, since that what it is telling you?

I've got Q 6.5 on my Intel with 10.6.4.

It actually opens and lets me print and make pdf files, but I rarely use it.

that would be great to be able to run 6.5 actually on the Intel. Would one have to unintall it on the G5 before going through the activation process?

Thanks

Maybe this could work after all...

If I remember correctly, Quark 6.5 has no way of deactivating itself. Even uninstalling does not deactivate it on that machine. I think you will have to contact Quark for this on 6.5. On 7 and 8 you can deactivate it on the one machine and then activate it on the other.

Just like the Adobe apps, you can run Quark on more than one machine just not at the same time. Also Quack was giving version 8 away for free, I don't know if that deal is still on but I got it and for what it's worth it runs well on my Intel Imac. Almost as good as version 4 ran back in the day...

When Adobe abandoned their Printer Partner program Quark offered a free copy of Quark 8 to join their Printer Partner program. I don't know if it is still available though. I would guess you would have to pay a yearly fee to Quark just like you did with Adobe. Adobe's price was $595 per year.

I paid zero dollars for it. All I had to do was show that I was a member of Adobe's Partners Program. Check out the Quark Alliance page for further info although the offer may have ended.

Is there no yearly fee for the one by Quark almaink?

Speaking of V8 Quark - a long retired client has become un-retired and WTF did he buy - yup Quark 8 on an upgrade from his previous version 4.  :ohno: Anyone save a V8 version back to 6.5 for me (Mac)? Would sending the V8 Quark file be enough or do I have to send on the whole shebang?

I have two SL machines.  On both I can get 6 and 8 to run, but not 7.

I guess not, they sent me a copy of version 8 and the receipt was marked paid in full. I've updated the app with no issues too.
I guess if you did it last year when Adobe dumped us you are golden.

Even for free I think you got ripped off.
