September 03, 2013, 06:12:05 PM
Have a AI file with missing links?

• Open in ai Acrobat Pro
• Use advanced editing tool to delete a crop mark and save
• Reopen in Illustrator
• Warning box will pop up saying it has been modified outside of Illustrator
• Choose the "keep changes" option.
• Links are now embedded.

Hello all,

I need to fatten up some type by adding a stroke across a multi page pdf. I can select similar (colour) on one page and do it but I need to do this on a 58 page document.

Can I do this globally?

I am sure I have done this before...

I'm using Acrobat 9.5.2 and pit-stop pro 9

February 07, 2012, 11:07:27 PM
OK check this

Works with single page docs mostly.

Save doc as PDF then open in Acrobat Pro then save as Jpeg

Open Jpeg in Acrobat then use the OCR tool

Cut OCR text out of Acrobat and back into original doc

Hello all,

I am searching for some software that can automatically gang simple label impositions to a fixed width digital web printer.

For example this is the order

Type 1 = 1000
Type 2 = 1000
Type 3 = 1000
Type 4 = 6000

The type can fit across the web 4 times so this becomes the imposition.

Imposition 1 = 1000 run
Type 1 = 1up
Type 2 = 1up
Type 3 = 1up
Type 4 = 1up (first 1000 of type 4)

Imposition 2 = 1250 run
Type 4 = 4up (remaining 5000 of type 4)

I am also looking for something that can do this automatically from the required label quantities,(xml / excel etc).

I know that programs like metrix can probably do this but spending that much money seems like a hell of a lot of overkill for what is required.

Adobe Acrobat / Postscript then distill = pdf 1.3??
March 09, 2011, 04:54:59 PM
Hello All,

I am running into some problems with my rip failing on a few pdfs. What seems to get them through is if I take the original pdf open in acrobat then save as a postscript then run through distiller to create a cleaner pdf.

As I understand it postscript does not support spot colours and transparency? So doing this will will create the equivalent of a pdf 1.3 which may lead to transparency and spot colour problems?

Please tell me I am wrong...

General Prepress / Automated Prepress Traffic?!
March 04, 2010, 03:55:42 AM
Hello ppl,

I run a fairly busy prepress department and I am in charge of piping the work through. At the moment I process around 50 jobs a day. I use the traditional email proof off and then wait for the reply then push the files through the right cue. To me it seems like a process that could be automated. Does anyone have any suggestions? The only thing I think might do it is enfocus switch but I don't know enough about the product..

General Prepress / Gang imposition calculator
November 18, 2009, 02:09:17 AM
Hello all,

Here in prepress we often get handed a bunch of different size jobs that need to be gang imposed. We often then sit down with a calculator and a piece of paper and try and figure out the best way of fitting everything up on a sheet. This can often take some time. Does anyone know of any software out there that will do this for us? The only thing I can find so far is Metrix by lithotechnics but I am guessing that is going to cost an arm and a leg.

General Prepress / Job Bag Free Prepress!!
October 16, 2009, 03:36:29 AM
Hey guys,

I was wondering how many people are working in prepress environments that only have digital job bags. I recently visited a big bulk run print shop running a full JDF workflow and the job bag was only generated once one the job hit the press floor. Before that it was fully digital. How many people are doing this? It was quite amazing imo

CMS - Proofing - Printers / A few kodak Insite questions?
September 18, 2009, 12:49:15 AM
Hello All,

We are thinking of moving our on-line ordering system to Kodak Insite and I have a few questions I am hoping someone can help me with.

As I understand it requires just one initial set up cost, does anyone know approximately how much this is?

Also does it have a per order click rate or once you have it set up are all orders free?

Are the web2print templates made using Indesign and uploaded?

Is it an overall good package?

Thanks

Enfocus / Pistop Server 3.5 Convert all fonts to curves
September 07, 2009, 06:19:44 PM
Hello All,

Can Pitstop Server 3.5 use an action convert all fonts to curves? I have downloaded an action off the enfocus site but it throws an error when I load it up.

So my question is can 3.5 convert all fonts to curves?

We are running Pitstop Pro 8 so I think the action I export from that my be a bit old for server 3.5

Does anyone have a convert all text to outlines action that is compatible with 3.5 server on a Windows Server 2003?

Thanks

Has anyone got a calibration (images skintones colourbars etc) pdf that I can use to calibrate our presses to our epsons?

Thanks
#15
I am trying to get my Epson proofs and presses to match. We had our plate tech come out to calibrate everything.

We ran out plates and all our values are the same i.e. 10% on file = 10% on plates etc.

We then put the plates on our presses and of course we found some dot gain when running to correct density. There seemed to be quite a lot of dot gain from 50% to 100% i.e. 70% was coming out at 80%.

The tech said this is quite normal is an example of a bell curve and a 10% dot gain is acceptable to fogra standards.

From all my experience in the industry if I set a 70% screen on my file I should get close to a 70% on paper not an 80% screen.

The tech said I should not aim for linear but more of a curve because this is the way the eye perceives colour.

The whole experience has left me a little confused. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

General Prepress / Anyone got a CMYK colour chart
October 24, 2008, 07:26:05 PM
I want to print off a CMYK colour chart from our offset presses. Has anyone got one handy that they can send my way?

Something similar to this with percentage combos

I remember all my old workplaces had them.

Is there any plug in or way to use acrobat reader to find out a pdfs trim size? I am sick of getting hassled all day by reps asking me to check a pdfs trim size.

General Prepress / Is anyone using a JDF workfow?
August 08, 2008, 10:20:02 PM
I was wondering if anyone is working with a JDF workflow? From what I understand it is a all in one info package for a print job that contains impo and all other info that a job requires, binding, gillo, ect. So a MIS (Management Information Services aka print quoting system) like Prism spits out a jdf file we load it up into Preps or Prinergy and all the impo and everything is already done. All we do is load up the correct PDFs and fire it off.

If I understand correctly...?

August 01, 2008, 05:17:36 AM
Does any one have any web based FTP upload solutions that are working well for them? At the moment we are using "you send it" which is proving to be a shit-fight seeing we have 5 reps and 100s of clients using all sorts of random subjects to send their jobs through.

Please help..!

July 16, 2008, 06:23:56 AM
Does Acrobat 8 have a "All Spots to Process" button / tick box somewhere similar to in Ind's ink manager? If so does it do the same CMYK breakdown that Ind does?
