Tips & Tricks / Re: Embed missing links in ai
September 03, 2013, 09:00:08 PM
I think because ai saves files as pdf compatible natively now (the pdf has the missing links embedded), doing this forces ai to open the pdf.

I guess this may not work if you force ai not to include pdf compatibility under the save options.

Tips & Tricks / Embed missing links in ai

Have a AI file with missing links?

• Open in ai Acrobat Pro
• Use advanced editing tool to delete a crop mark and save
• Reopen in Illustrator
• Warning box will pop up saying it has been modified outside of Illustrator
• Choose the "keep changes" option.
• Links are now embedded.

Worked a treat Joe. I owe you a beer, but just thinking if the text is converted to curves then what...

Luckily this time it wasn't...

Thanks Joe,
I will give it a shot Monday, I really hope I can pull it off in 9. It will turn a few hours work into a few seconds

Hello all,

I need to fatten up some type by adding a stroke across a multi page pdf. I can select similar (colour) on one page and do it but I need to do this on a 58 page document.

Can I do this globally?

I am sure I have done this before...

I'm using Acrobat 9.5.2 and pit-stop pro 9

OK check this

Works with single page docs mostly.

Save doc as PDF then open in Acrobat Pro then save as Jpeg

Open Jpeg in Acrobat then use the OCR tool

Cut OCR text out of Acrobat and back into original doc

Hello all,

I am searching for some software that can automatically gang simple label impositions to a fixed width digital web printer.

For example this is the order

Type 1 = 1000
Type 2 = 1000
Type 3 = 1000
Type 4 = 6000

The type can fit across the web 4 times so this becomes the imposition.

Imposition 1 = 1000 run
Type 1 = 1up
Type 2 = 1up
Type 3 = 1up
Type 4 = 1up (first 1000 of type 4)

Imposition 2 = 1250 run
Type 4 = 4up (remaining 5000 of type 4)

I am also looking for something that can do this automatically from the required label quantities,(xml / excel etc).

I know that programs like metrix can probably do this but spending that much money seems like a hell of a lot of overkill for what is required.

Quote from: DigitalCrapShoveler on March 09, 2011, 05:25:49 PMYou are not wrong, however, 1.3 DOES indeed support spot colors. If they are not set-up correctly, since you are using 1.3, they will be almost impossible to fix depending on the job.

Yes 1.3 does support spot colours

No 1.3 does not support spot colours with transparency (that started in 1.4)

Adobe Acrobat / Postscript then distill = pdf 1.3??
March 09, 2011, 04:54:59 PM
Hello All,

I am running into some problems with my rip failing on a few pdfs. What seems to get them through is if I take the original pdf open in acrobat then save as a postscript then run through distiller to create a cleaner pdf.

As I understand it postscript does not support spot colours and transparency? So doing this will will create the equivalent of a pdf 1.3 which may lead to transparency and spot colour problems?

Please tell me I am wrong...

Hello all,
I am trying to create an acrobat droplet set white text and vector objects to knockout. I can see the action under single fixups but I don't seem to be able to assign it to my droplet. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong please.

I have been in the business for over ten years now and I know Impose-It can make a impo draw for anything you can think of. It is Australian based software so maybe that is why you Americans have not heard of it. I have tried everything to find it with no luck. I admit that Quite-Impose could probably do the trick but impose-it was a really cool non acrobat prog that could make a draw of anything. We have a really basic print  mis so impose-it  draws would be a big bonus if we could get it working again.
