CMS - Proofing - Printers / RGB to CMYK troubles
February 19, 2016, 02:38:24 PM
Not sure why I'm having so much trouble with color conversions. Think I have it - and "poof" all understanding disappears!

We are having a difference if RGB to CMYK if converted in InDesign or converted in Acrobat PitStop.

I apologize up front if not ok to post to more than one Forum.  :undecided:

Adobe US Web Coated (SWOP) color settings - used in InDesign and Acrobat

RGB Mix in Original InDesign file R=87, G-154, B=88

InDesign converts to C=70 M=10 Y=84 K=3

PitStop is set to pick up color management from Acrobat. Acrobat is using the same color settings as InDesign synced with Bridge.

Acrobat PitStop converts to C=82.51 M=3.37 Y=86.67 K=6.89

One difference I know is InDesign uses Adobe CMM color engine. PitStop uses Little CMS. Would this make that much difference?

We have both a Prinergy Workflow and an XMF Workflow. If we send a proof from XMF to the Spinjet, the hot folders no longer function for Prinergy proofs and we need to reboot the proofer front end.

The output files are going to different hot folders on the Spinjet. Prinergy sends a PDF and XMF sends a TIFF (the reason for different hot folders).

Has anyone else seen this and solved this problem?

Thank you!

Fujifilm XMF / Creeping in and out
July 16, 2015, 11:17:21 AM
On larger books we creep half the book out and half the book in.

What we thought would work is figure the full amount of creep, divided in half and set this as the Initial Creep.

Enter the paper thickness into the Default Creep.

But it doesn't seem to be enough creep.

Anyone else doing this?

Fujifilm XMF / multiple marks moving together
July 01, 2015, 12:40:01 PM
We're hoping to create this as a grouped mark (if there is such a thing).
Slur Targets on left and right side of color bar. The group will resize to whatever paper size we are using.

We've got the marks to work - as 3 separate marks. I would like them to move together, such as by default we put them at the top of the sheet, but often they need to be in the center of the sheet.

I talked to XMF and they said they didn't have a grouping action. But I thought maybe one of the geniuses on this forum would know how to do this!

Is anyone using XMF to accept files from a Web Portal into a Hot Folder, then directly to plate?

Our problem is, the files come in sporadically and we need to plate before all are received.

I've tried setting up a Job Template, it made a job out of every single file uploaded.

I've tried creating a Job that will Auto Flow, but whenever we set to Complete so we can plate, the Auto Flow turns off and we'll probably forget to turn it back on.

I hope there's a way to do this.

Fujifilm XMF / Adding fold marks to Work and Tumble
June 04, 2015, 04:00:29 PM
We're trying to add rectangle marks for the fold marks on a Work & Tumble. We've done this with a Work & Turn and the marks show on both sides. But on a Work & Tumble it seems to be treating the entire sheet as a Front.

Our workaround is to place marks everywhere we need them, but shouldn't they be backing themselves up?

Or maybe - just maybe - we're doing in wrong?

Thanks

Fujifilm XMF / Plating with a shooter (front end)
June 03, 2015, 08:44:07 AM
We're having problems with queued plates. They sometimes get "stuck" and need to Abort. It seems that Abort applies to all plates queued.

Is anyone using a queue manager or shooter for their plate imager?

Note: we had several jobs on their way to plate and had at least 64 plates queued.

Fujifilm XMF / Proofing on ORIS proofer
May 19, 2015, 01:50:16 PM
When making ORIS proofs, the job prints immediately after the ORIS 8 lines of info - no space between. Anyone know how to add at least 1" of white space before printing the actual job?

TIA

Fujifilm XMF / XMF and Preps
December 08, 2014, 12:53:34 PM
We just upgraded to XMF 6 which can use JDF files from Preps!! But, we're having trouble with XMF picking up the marks.

I've made a drop folder and dropped the JDF and the .ps (marks file) into it. The JDF part seems to work, but not the marks.

Anyone using Preps with XMF?

Thanks

Macintosh / Backing up to DVD OS 10.7.5
November 25, 2014, 02:35:48 PM
Our guy that does all the backups said when he copies jobs to dvd and we have alias files/folders in the job linking to art, previous job, whatever, the alias is picking up the actual jobs and including them in the backup.

Is there a way to not include the alias' linked files? I've looked for this, but must be looking in all the wrong places.

Fujifilm XMF / Sheet perimeter line
October 13, 2014, 08:07:26 AM
I've added the color "BlueLine-Black" into the System Ink Pool, thinking that's what was needed. But . . .  no.

Under the Export PDF Job Settings / Blueline Marks / Marks, I've selected Paper Outline / BlueLine-Black / Solid but it is not showing as Available. How do I make it Available?

Thanks

Fujifilm XMF / Proofing to a SpinJet
October 07, 2014, 05:07:50 PM
XMF newbie . . .

We have 3 signatures in a Saddle-Stitch job. First is Work & Turn, next 2 are Sheetwise. We sent to our SpinJet Hot Folder and it backed everything up incorrectly. How do you control your backed up proofs? Make PDFs and copy to the appropriate SpinJet Hot folder?

Thanks

Fujifilm XMF / Sheet and Plate sluglines
October 01, 2014, 07:49:09 AM
We're new to XMF and looking for a solutions of slug lines. We want the slug line to print on the proofs, preferably up the left edge of the proof.

If we step-and-repeat a page, each page gets the slug line if we use Sheet slug lines. If we use Plate slug lines we can position it where we want it but it won't print on proofs.

Fujifilm XMF / Output file for die maker

How are you handling dielines? Our die maker wants ONLY the dieline and sheet edge on the PDF we send to them.

Thank you.

Fujifilm XMF / XMF Layers Versioning
September 23, 2014, 08:05:30 AM
I'm new to XMF and studying the layers versioning option of XMF. I'm able to get the layers to turn on and off as needed. But when it comes to the imposition, I seem to be able to get only one version multi-up. What I would like is to control the versions. 2-up of version A, 5-up of version B, etc.

Thanks for any advice.
