Hi
We've G5 running 10.5.8 Dual 2.3 Ghz Power PC 4.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM
Every now and then the text in emails & some web site changes to what looks like some sort of eastern European style with accents over letters and alike.
Any ideas how to stop this or whats causing it?

Thanks

Haven't seen that EXACT issue, but it's font related. If you're using font management software (FEX, Suitcase), try deactivating ALL fonts except for the ones in the system folder and see if the problem continues.

If it does continue, corrupt system font.

If it does not continue, one of your activated fonts is substituting itself.

One other thing to check is in the upper right hand corner to the left of the clock. A foreign language can be installed, and there will be a little flag icon. If it's not an American (or your country's) flag, you're set for the wrong language.

Got a UK flag as it should be.
Yeah it has Suitcase running so I'll try that first.
I'll let you know how we get on.

Just quit Suitcase and make sure to turn off your application's auto-activation default all together and see if the problem continues.

Turned everything off in Suitcase and no problems.
So is there some sort of update for suitcase or do I just have to keep it tidy?

Thanks

Bin Suitcase and use FEX.
Speed doesn't kill, rapidly becoming stationary is the problem

Actually, if you want, turn on fonts one at a time until you find the one that offends. Then, remove it. You might be able to tell by looking at the preview.

You can also check Fontbook.  It activates fonts as well and some of those may be causing the conflict.
Launch Fontbook and look for little dots to the right of the font names, those are conflicts. Resolve the conflicts there and see if it doesn't help.

I have seen this happen around here.  If in Suitcase go to the file menu, and select, clear the font cache. Quit all running programs before doing it.

What email client? Try changing the default fonts in the email program's preferences.

Using Mac Mail, all working fine now.
I've been through all my fonts and ditched the bad ones.
Thanks for your help.
