Kodak Systems / Prinergy.....Just Wonderin'
May 20, 2011, 12:24:31 PM
Happy Friday!! I just have a "shot in the dark" kind of question. I've done a little bit of research outside of this site, but not a whole lot. Never did find what I was looking for. Anyway, I was just wondering if any of fellow Prinergy users have heard of any mobile device apps for dropping plates yet? I'm on Prinergy 5.1, Preps 5 (expecting to upgrade to Preps 6 soon....I'm not afraid of it, bring it on!). Sometimes though, it would be nice to have the "in the office or out of the office" option and if our pressroom needed a plate remake, it could be dropped from this fancy HTC Evo phone I have. We do have full time platemakers here, and sure you'd think it be easy to get them to drop a plate. However, they are just platemakers and apparently not to be trusted rummaging around in prinergy. Anybody hear of anything like this yet? I assume the technology is out there somewhere or at least in the works and of-course my friends here are so smart that one of you surely knows the answer to this. Thanks and have a Great Weekend!

One thousand "Thank You's" TP! Yep, I'm a huge HP fan myself. I was only going to get an Epson because it would have been available through the hell hole I go to for 8 hours a day.  I was checking out the HP Designjet 130. I keep finding myself going back to it. I would like a 24'' photo printer (I plan on using roll paper and have a pretty good source to buy it & ink from). In an effort to keep myself busy & make extra money, I've started to create my own line of holiday photo greeting cards. It's a fantastic racket to get into! I have all of my own designs, people can send me their pics or I will go and take their family photo (photography is a hobby of mine too). Then I want to mass print on my own. My other HPs are fantastic but, dang, they eat up ink fast. So, in your (all of you here), do you have any opinions or printer suggestions? I'd like to stay around a grand or two if possible and that includes the printer stand. Also, feel free to steal my idea. I've found it to be an easy and pretty good money maker on the side. Some people are just nuts about those photo christmas cards!
So, there, know I feel like I've given you something in return for your always fabulous advice, help & tips!

Thanks, friends! I was just hoping for a reasonably close color match. I knew I wouldn't get the same. It was only for the purpose of a day or two if our main printer went down. Yeah, it's probably not worth my time or energy to go through all this crap for a good deal so I guess I'll start hitting up craigslist, ebay, epson used and find one on my own. Any other ideas on good sites to buy a decent wide format photo printer like this one? Thanks again, you'se are all swell! Have a great weekend!
Hey, I wonder if anyone has one listed here in the used equipment section? Hmm, I'll check that out later too!

CMS - Proofing - Printers / Rerouting an Epson to an HP
October 15, 2010, 12:52:14 PM
I am running Prinergy 5, I have an Epson Integris 7880 hooked up for press proofs(PC driven with all the fancy Kodak calibrations etc..) Say my Epson takes a crap, can I reroute the settings set up for this Integris to a HP-6100 Wide format printer? I would think it's just a matter of choosing a different proofing device. But we know how funny it is when we think something "might" be simple. I'm trying to accomplish this today if possible.
**Side note, I am trying to buy an old Integris 7600 from my company. I got the okay (at a great price) but I need to prove I can get the HP to print the same proofs as the new Integris. HELP.... Pllleeeaaassseee!

Adobe Acrobat / Acrobat 9.3.3 & FusionPro 7.0P1d
August 03, 2010, 09:58:09 AM
Hey it's been a long time since I've made an appearance here! It looks like all is well & no one is having any problems lately, haaaa! Anyway, I have a fellow employee here with a problem and I was wondering if anyone might have some suggestions or tips I can pass along to her. I'm just going to copy & paste her email & images, so here goes:

I recently got a new computer at my work. I installed FusionPro Desktop like I had on the other computer and started working. I made a new template in InDesign, exported it for FusionPro and opened it in Acrobat. Whenever I go to Preview or Compose I get an error message (image below). My old templates that I had made on my old computer still work fine and don't give me the error--just the new template I made.

What I'm running:
Windows 7
FusionPro Desktop 7.0P1d
Acrobat 9.3.3
InDesign CS4
Illustrator CS5 (used to make EPS image resource)

What I've done to try to fix:
Uninstall/Install:
Uninstalled FusionPro
Uninstalled Acrobat
Reinstalled Acrobat
Ran Acrobat updates
Restarted
Reinstalled FusionPro Desktop
Started from Scratch:
Trashed all files except InDesign file
Moved file to Desktop*
Re-created artwork
Re-imported artwork to InDesign file
Double-checked exported frame settings on all frames
Re-exported file**
Applied resource to template (NOTE: this resource is used on another template that previews and composes without error)***
Changed image file to an Illustrator pdf****
* to see if it was a problem with where I had my resources, pdf file, etc., I worked entirely off the desktop (quite a mess)

** at this point (with no resources or rules applied), the document will preview and compose

*** at this point (with a resource and no rules applied) I receive the error when trying to compose or preview

**** recommended by tech support; this did stop the error, but I would prefer to use eps files in the templates, because that is the format of most of our images (reformatting them all would take months). My thinking is this may be the only option???

I've contacted technical support and they're in the process of trying to figure out what's going on, but I wasn't sure if anyone else had run across this problem and figured out what was causing it. Any help would be appreciated; I'm exhausted from banging my head on a wall.

As always, one thousand "thank you's"

Power to the Pre-Press People, my friends!!  Just doing my part to keep us all employed.  Feel free to follow my lead if you can!  Let's start a revolution of "uhhhh, I don't know, let me look into that" and then take weeks/months to figure it out, ha ha!
Management should know better than to anger a princess with a giant machine gun, ha ha!

I see this conversation had started about 2 months ago, but I just caught it today.  I wanted to make a statement here, but decided to wait until I got home and say it just in case big brother is watching / listening.  Anyway, my company decided to make all these fancy prinergy upgrades with has so many new features - blah blah blah.  Long story short, the company refuses to pay anyone for training and it fell on me to sit and figure some stuff out.  Well, you know what?  You can bet your ass there are a few features that all in all could save the company a little bit of money and time.  But you know what?  I am the only one in that entire company that knows it.  Management is too busy with their heads in their asses to really actually learn anything so I CHOOSE NOT TO TELL THEM!  Know why?  I happen to really like the people I work with.  We are like family.  Faster/Better features = less employees.  I don't think I would get any special treatment or even a fricking raise for taking all this time to figure it out cause they're too cheap to hire a trainer.  So, Screw Em I Say!  Well, change "screw" to one big fat "F-Bomb".  I will keep all this fancy new knowledge to myself!  We haven't had any layoffs yet and I'm going to see to it that all of us are ALWAYS needed.  Even if it takes a little bit longer to get something to press.  Honestly, they would never know the difference!  ****Side note- I love this new look!  You people ROCK!

Yeah, we are lucky enough to have one of those guys here.  I read through the Insite manual and it looks like you need quite a few geniuses to get that up and running too.  Unless of course you get a Kodak guy to come and help you set it up, which unfortunately my company won't spend the money on.  So here I sit reading all my manuals to see if I can figure it out on my own.  Which also explains why I'm already up to 2 stars on this site, ha ha!  I love you guys!
Stlv:  That's what I would like to see here.  It really is truly Unfrickingbelievable how many people have such a difficult time accessing an FTP site.  It's just mind blowing to me.

General Prepress / How do you receive your outside files
December 04, 2008, 11:22:46 AM
So, I was just wondering how most of you receive your PDF files from your customers?  Assuming you get PDFs, of course.  I'm looking into this whole insite creative workflow and I'm wondering if it's really worth the hassle as perhaps maybe an in-house created website would be better.  Naturally right now we are using FTP but we are looking to automate a bit for a few customers.  What do you think?  If any of you have a sweet website, can I check it out?
Thanks!

Well, thanks anyway, friends!  Perhaps I need to fasten my safety belt and call Kodak.  Ugh!  I dread that!  I always try to go here first now.  Born, any reason you decided not to get LPV?  I'm trying to decide which is faster/better LPV or just creating a whole bunch of version impositions.  Seems like it might be around the same amount of time.  Unless of course I automate it.  That's my next project APA / Rules based automation.
Now THAT one I'm going to need some luck with!  But I don't want to automate things too much around here, if you can catch my drift!  Sometimes I really enjoy being the only one who really knows what's going on around here!

Ahh, you can't blame a girl for trying.  You just usually always seem to know the answers to my problems.  Well, now I got problems, but that's another story, ha ha!  Tunes are Awesome!  Really helped me out last week when I needed it most.  I haven't forgotten about you though!  (sidenote: People, I am talking about sending him music!)   Just been busy.  When I'm not busy here, I'm busy at home working on some pics as I just photographed a wedding a couple of week's ago.  And then, of-course, one has to give oneself plenty of bar/beer time!
