Macintosh / Re: First contact with computers
December 04, 2007, 03:49:17 PM
That thing I was married to way back when bought something called an XTra. Dos machine, no color, no operating system really, about a 16 MB processor and 8 Meg memory, and 400 MB HD, damn thing cost $1600 and had the nerve to put a button on the front to push that was labeled "Turbo". Friggin scientist! ???

G4 AGP with 1.2 GHz Sonnett card and 1.38 GB SDRAM OS 10.4.11- my "personal" machine also used as commercial jobs file server/ archive.
G4 400 AGP OS 9.2 drives an old flatbed scanner.
...and a G3 the retiree comes in once a month and does our company newsletter because she refuses to move beyond OS 9 and Quark 4  :-)

Macintosh / Re: Anyone set up a airport network at home?
December 04, 2007, 01:23:06 PM
Got an old G3, G4 and my iMac networked wirelessly. Easy as pie using Airport Adm- ditto on network password.
Only thing I couldn't configure was my Lexmark all in one- must be a Mac/PeeCee thing!

Mostly an "experience" thing here. I did spend a day creating new set of profiles for Pitstop Server which makes the size of the report at least manageable and helps point me in the right direction on new jobs, it still comes down to trainning and experience and knowing the customer. Some regular job files I hardly even look at.

Kodak Preps / Re: Preps and Leopard
November 08, 2007, 01:40:35 PM
Actually waiting on Intel Macs. I hear Leopard is slower on G5s than Tiger. Been holding off on Preps 5.3 because I just haven't seen any advantages to upgrading from 5.2.2.
Thanks for the positive imput. Due a Mac upgrade here.

Sometimes its too strong.
For the record Magenta is the only color that is proven to have carcinogenic effect on your body. That means manufacturing magenta ink and using it (touching, inhaling...)
I don't like magenta
Ack FFS and I just painted my bedroom Magenta!!! and it took 5 coats- we be dead!

"I still think it's more of an "office" tool until the major RIP manufacturers support it."
Yeah Joe, but knowing my customers it won't be long befor we start receiving jobs created as PDL instead of PDF. How will we handle these in a PDF workflow? Is there trouble on the horizon?

Anyone have any scoop on Micro$oft's effort to introduce their own flavor of PDF from Punisher docs called PDL?

We have had two PlateJets from the beginning. Mainly for thruput feeding two shifts on our web, but also for back-up which has saved our butts several times. Getting two new Kodak thermals soon I hear thru the grapevine!
