Digital Printing / Xante Enpress error SC555-1
December 02, 2022, 07:15:16 AM
We have a Xante Enpress we use for full colour envelopes. It is out of warranty and trying to get service to reply in a timely matter is a little frustrating. Google has only bought up a Ricoh printer with the same error code, I did try to do what they said with no luck.

Has anyone encountered and been able to fix/bypass error code SC555-1?

Adobe InDesign / 2 page data merge
September 27, 2022, 04:40:29 AM
I have a job I need to do a merge on. It is super simple, it is a 2 page file. Front page has an access code, back page is static. I need to export this as single file PDF's so the name's of each PDF can be variable merged as well. The PDF made has the first page with the variable and makes a second individual page of the static back. Is there anyway to have it make a 2 page PDF merged? Latest version of Indesign being used.

General Prepress / what type of pantone is this?
March 08, 2022, 06:48:31 AM
I received a file with 2 pantone colours that I have never seen before and not sure how they are to be used.

Pantone 105-16 C
Pantone 154-8 C

I have never seen a pantone with a dash and another number before. If I just take the first 3 digits they do not match the colour, or even colour family, that the file is. Googling it comes with a hex number thing. What is this pantone used for? I am guessing there is no direct conversion to a print pantone colour?

I am contemplating upgrading from my 13" MacBook Pro to a 14" MacBook Pro with Apples M1 Pro chip. in pricing it out it is confusing when it comes to the CPU.

The options I am looking at are:

Apple M1 Pro with 8-core CPU, 14-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine
Apple M1 Pro with 10-core CPU, 14-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine

So the difference between the 2 is the number of cores. I don't know if it is worth a little more money for the 10 core and how Indesign will use the M1 Pro processor. Most of my work is done in Indesign so anything to speed that up is very welcome. Just not sure if a 2 core difference will make any noticeable improvements.

Would be getting 32 gigs of RAM and a 512gb SSD - opting for external for large storage.

Anyone have any experience with these new chips? Would eventually look at replacing my 5K iMac with this machine as I am at the end of the line in terms of OS updates (Big Sur), though not ready to jump fully into M1 for work as I do need some VM of Windows 10 still at the moment.

The Rest... / Fiery XF default password?
November 13, 2021, 08:18:42 AM
I use Fiery XF 6 for my Epson 9900 at home. It has been years since I needed to add a new client to connect, and now that I do I cannot remember the password. The EFI support webpage is just not helpful at all. Does anyone by chance know what the default password might be or anyway I could find the password? I tried searching keychain on my Mac but it does not store this password.

Enfocus / Pitstop 2019 and MacOS Catalina?
November 04, 2021, 09:02:12 AM
I just updated to MacOS Catalina and Pitstop does not seem to work as normal. Does Pitstop not work with this version of MacOS?

Is anyone else having issues with viewing separations in the latest release of Indesign? I guess I should reword, it is not exactly viewing separations but viewing the CMYK makeup when hovering the mouse of a colour. Worked fine in the previous version, but not this. I did try trashing my preference file as well with no change.

General Prepress / Epson Scan 2 question
October 28, 2021, 12:43:18 PM
Not sure if anyone uses this, but I have been using Epson Scan for years with my V550 scanner. Now that Adobe is needing Catalina or later for their apps I am going to need to update my OS. Going through my 32 bit apps and I only have 2 I need to update. I did find Epson Scan 2 but it is lacking some simple functionality and I am wondering if I am missing something. In Epson Scan I can load a preview, then highlight an area I want to scan with a box and then it scans only that area. I do not see this option at all with Epson Scan 2. Anyone use this app and know if the feature is just removed or is it hidden somewhere?

Not sure if my terminology is correct in the title, I do not do a lot of book setups.

I have 2 gifs showing what I am doing and was working till I got to #5. Why would this work for 1, 2, 3, 4 but not 5 and up?

this is what I want to continue doing

This is what it does 5 and up

Adobe InDesign / Data merge help
May 03, 2021, 08:36:09 AM
I am working on a catalogue and have a data merge to do. I have never done multiple records on a single page. I got the basics of it but am stuck where cells are not enlarging to fit the content in it when needed. I have 4 column by 4 rows. I have attached a screen shot of my setup. This gets repeated on the page sequentially. Now the issue is the content that would be in the bottom right box "designed by.." us the names do not all fit in the preset size. I could enlarge it but then there is a huge space and the majority do not need extra room. Is there a way for it to auto size to fit when needed?

I have an annual report I am fixing up. Customer supplied a PDF. This is a 100+ page perfect bound annual report. I need to do some slight fix ups and adjust some spreads for perfect binding. The issue I am having, and I have never seen this before, is when I move the page number and a graphical element with the page numbering, it moves the same piece on other pages. This would be like moving a master page item in Indesign accept this is in Acrobat DC. Is there a way to unlink these from each other? It would be fine if they had them all in the same place but they are slightly different so I need to adjust a bunch of pages manually.

General Prepress / printing white under solid colour
March 29, 2021, 12:29:55 PM
Having issues with a file not printing white here. I sent a file to our wide format guys, it is going on a clear window film. They wanted me to put white behind the store name so the colours would be more vibrant. I made a spot "white" at 100% and put it behind. Store name is set to over print the white. When printing it does not print the white but prints the colour. I have not had this issue before and have tried a bunch of things with no luck. Fairly new to using white so maybe I am missing something. Anyone have an idea why the white would not print? It is directly behind the store name text, you will not see any white when it is finished printing.

Adobe InDesign / making a script for Indesign?
July 09, 2020, 12:01:30 PM
When hunting around for a solution to make life a bit easier with a specific job I came across someone who wrote a script that should do exactly what I need. The problem is I have no idea how to make this script into a .jsx file that will work in Indesign.

I am using the latest version of Indesign CC on a Mac running Mojave.

I copied and pasted the info from the website into textedit. I then saved as an RTF as txt is not an option. I then changed the extension to .jsx and put it in the appropriate folder. Indesign shows it but it is greyed out. I am assuming I have done something wrong here. Is there a correct way I should be making a .jsx file on a Mac that will work with Indesign?

This is the script I want:

(function () {
var curDoc = app.activeDocument,
allPages = curDoc.pages,
nPages = allPages.length,
curPage,
i,p,
newMaster = curDoc.masterSpreads.itemByName("B-Masterpage");

for (i = nPages-1; i >= 0; i--) {
curPage = allPages;
p = curDoc.pages.add({appliedMaster: newMaster});
p.move(LocationOptions.AFTER, curPage);
}
}) ();

General Prepress / imposing a perpetual calendar?
June 04, 2020, 11:01:49 AM
I have never seen one or heard of this type of calendar. We have one to setup, it is 368 pages that will be made into a perpetual calendar. The issue is the file supplied is in order Jan 1, Jan 2, Jan 3, etc. The way it needs to be setup is page 1 is backed up by page 368, page 2 backed up by 367, page 3 backed up by 366, etc etc etc.

Anyone have any tips or tricks on doing this with a PDF? All I can come up with is re-ordering the PDF manually before imposing. I have an old version of preps and latest version of Imposition Studio Pro

Digital Printing / Variable data printing on HP Indigo?
February 13, 2020, 11:02:54 AM
At the new company I am with we have an HP Indigo. Prints really nice but seems to be missing features I am used to on the smaller digital presses. Ran a Versant 2100 before.

Now I have a variable job, about 5,000 records. I am imposing the merged files and sending it to the printer where it takes a long time. On our Versant I would make a Master page with all static info and then bring in a variable document which would be just the imprinted addresses. Would RIP super quick and be printing in no time. I tried searching for Indigo variable and only came up with an Indesign plugin which does not mimic what I would do simply on the Xerox. Are there any tools to do what I could do before on the Indigo? Or do they not have this functionality in the HP RIP?

General Prepress / Sleeve for 8.5 x 11 booklet template?
February 12, 2020, 02:20:48 PM
Does anyone have a template for a wrap around sleeve that a 8.5 x 11 booklet/magazine could slip into? Looking for something for regular real estate jobs that come in, generally 12 pages. They want something high end. Looking at 2 options a wrap and a sleeve that would cover maybe half of the booklet from the bottom up. Seems like that would be easier for them to just put in their printed product rather then mess around glueing or taping closed a wrap.

Kodak Systems / remove Side B (back) page in preps 4.2?
January 30, 2020, 01:21:32 PM
new to preps, basically working with templates that cover almost everything. I want to adjust a template that is set for 2 sides. I want to get rid of the back page and cannot figure out how to do that in preps. Using Preps 4.2.2

**edit**

I swear this happens 9/10 times I post a question, I figure it out after. Seems so counter intuitive to newer software! Also realize now that Preps is not part of Agfa but Kodak  :facepalm:

Enfocus / change pantone to CMYK value?
January 24, 2020, 07:25:25 AM
So I am NEW NEW NEW to pitstop and enfocus, never used it before. At the new shop we have 2019.

I have an old business card file we used to print 2 colour on press and thermograve. We do not thermograve at the new shop and will be printing it on our Indigo. I do not think the red will match and want to be able to make adjustments to the file. With Pitstop Pro 2019 how do I select the Red (Pantone 032) and replace all instances of that pantone with a CMYK value?

Thanks

Not sure if this is possible and have not found anything googling it.

I have a PDF file, 32 page book. No working file. They are not happy with the colour of a green that shows up throughout the entire document. Is there a way of searching out all objects that have a specific CMYK value and convert to a different CMYK value? So find all C29 M2 Y100 K0 and replace with C35 M0 Y85 K0?

Running latest version of Acrobat DC on a Mac.

Title feels confusing. I have a book I need to work on. The client supplied a file in Microsoft word, he has embedded pictures in his word file. I want to import all the text and manually insert the photos manually where they go after i have formatted everything. I started going through and just manually deleting the pictures but there is over 300 pages in total and many many pages have pictures. I looked at the import options and did not see anything about ignoring pictures. Is there a setting elsewhere to remove all the photos when importing?

**update**
And of course as soon as I post this and I go back and look at it again there is an option for "inline graphics". I removed the check and it does exactly what I want.
