That's why I avoid FB like the plague. That reminds me, I have to make a foil sleeve for my new chipped credit card. Not sure if it matters, but I want to be safe.

Yeah, I have 2 of the tracking devices in my pocket. I have a RFID bag for those as well.

That old MAME box was running Vista, but I did upgrade it to 10. I tried to BS my way through, but since I swapped out the motherboard, MS was all like, "Fuck you, asshole." I ended up buying a disk on Amazon for like $120. My "free" 8.1 upgrade to 10 was the box that got hosed. I had Windows Defender, and MalwareBytes running on it. No virus should have been able to penetrate and delete me .exes; I'm 100% sure it was Windows Defender that did it during the software upgrade before I went to 10. I have since upgraded it to 10, and recovered a few things, and reinstalled a few things, but I still lost a ton of apps (not files).

10 isn't all that different from 8, but with more of a 7 feel to it. It boots way faster, but the live apps/tiles like on 8 kind of suck still.

It isn't a virus that deleted the files, it's the anti-virus software that does it.

Vista doesn't allow a free upgrade to 10.

yes, but with a new motherboard, and hard drive, they'd never know what i was running before with a windows .iso burned to dvd. so they just deny everything, even though i technically had a registered 8.1 box on file with them.

You can't get a free upgrade without a valid Win 7 or Win 8.1 product key so if you would have had 8.1 on the machine you replaced the mb and hard drive you would have to use that product key to do a clean install of Win 10. But since you only had a Vista product key you can't use it to do a clean install of Win 10. There is no way around that.

This.

As long as it's a valid key (not keygen) you won't have issue.

Recently got my laptop upgraded to 10. If I connect it to the TV via HDMI, the only option to see anything on the TV screen is "Extended desktop". If I want to have the same picture both on the laptop screen as well as on the TV, the TV shows "Invalid Signal".

By the way, who is the brainiac that decided to make the media player unusable for Win 10? Now you only have two options: 1. You download FLV-player or any other kind of free stuff, or 2. Go to their new store and pay for their new player. I guess, that is where they want you to go. Give you the free update and let you pay for every little piece of software afterwards.

One of the good things about 10 is that you can change the system language, so now even my wife can use my computer without problems.

Microsofts Media Player has always sucked. There are far better free ones such as VLC.

I would guess the video issue is that maybe the video adapter is the problem? I have a Win 10 desktop hooked up to an HD monitor and an HD TV and it seems to work fine on it.

VLC for the win. It's the only player you need.

Not really sure about what's the problem with my TV, but as long as I can get it somehow to work I'm satisfied already. It's just like another day at work.

I have experienced more issues with VLC than with Media Player so I somehow miss it. But I'm not a frequent user, anyway. I just use it to watch a DVD from time to time or listen to some music and that's it.
